Sunday 16th August is a Journey Sunday at City URC Lead by one of our Elders Dr Carol Barratt
We do this every 3rd Sunday of the Month since returning to worship after the lockdown
We break out of the walls of the church and take our worship into the City Centre.

Those who wish to go for a short walk while thinking on and discussing a chosen Theme

After a short prayer session we return to the Church for a coffee

Those who don’t wish to walk out can stay in the old chapel to also discuss the theme.

We have been delighted by how many enjoy this very alternative and very informal form of worship

If you wish to try something different the service starts at 10.30am

We made a tree (sort of)

It was cafe church at City URC this Sunday and we were discussing the passage in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 13 which a whole set of Parables describing the Kingdom of God one of which is the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed that Grows into a huge tree.
They were all small everyday things mustard seeds, yeast, fishing nets and pearls

so I set us the challenge to find a new parable for the Kingdom that used things from our modern world

My favourites were

The Kingdom of God is like a Lego brick the child set down first to build a house.
It was small and dull and lost with all the rest but was the start of a wonderful creation.

And
The Kingdom of God is like Car Keys you hunt the whole house for them so you can start your journey

We realised that the Kingdom of God isn’t up in heaven the Kingdom of God is with us now
That what we do and how we behave with each other is how the Kingdom Grows

That even the conversation and connections we make during our cafe church are part of building the Kingdom of God.

We have cafe church the 4th Sunday of every month and we love how it gives everyone a chance to chat ask questions and remember we are all children of God
We’d love you to join us
You can bring your whole self to City and we will do our best to help you find your own way into the Kingdom (or Kindom) of God.
