Sermon notes continued:
**Prayer Is Not the Backup Plan**

Matthew 9:37-38. Jesus didn’t say pray because you can’t go. He said pray so that laborers go.

Prayer isn’t what you do when you’re not doing anything. It’s the foundation of everything that does get done in missions. Pastor Fisayo Ojo was clear on this: prayer isn’t an alternative to active involvement. It’s what makes active involvement sustainable.

Two things to pray for: the harvesters and the harvest field. The people going and the people waiting to receive.

Both matter. Both need intercession.

**We Need to Rethink This**

Rethinking isn’t doubting. It’s stepping back to get a God-given perspective on what’s actually working and what needs to change.

Sunday’s message asked us to look at how we engage with global missions, not just whether we care about it. Because caring without clarity doesn’t move the needle.

There are 16,419 people groups in the world. 7,163 of them are classified as unreached. A nation can have established churches and still have entire linguistic or cultural communities inside it that have never heard the Gospel.

We don’t just think in countries. We think in people.

**The Number That Should Bother Us**

3.64 billion people.

That’s the estimated number of people living within unreached people groups right now, groups where there aren’t enough believers or resources to even share the Gospel within their own community.

44.2% of the world’s population. Unreached.

Meanwhile, the number of Christians globally grew 6% from 2010 to 2020. The non-Christian population grew 15% in the same period.

We’re growing. Just not fast enough. And not always in the right direction.

Pastor Fisayo Ojo put it plainly: a growing Christian population doesn’t automatically mean every people group has access to the Gospel. Numbers aren’t the same as discipleship.

Sermon notes contd

Every part of the machete matters.
The handle, the blade, the cutting edge. Remove one and the whole thing stops working.
Pastor Alex Meseko used this to show us how the body of Christ actually functions. The cutting edge is out front sharing the Gospel. The blade is behind them, the accountants, designers, tech teams, mission support. The handle is the local church, sending, holding, sustaining.
Nobody is background. Nobody is optional.
The question isn’t whether you’re called. It’s which part of the machete you are.

Sermon notes contd: We know David as the psalmist. The shepherd. The giant killer.
But Sunday’s message from Pastor Alex Meseko showed us 12 different capacities David operated in, worshipper, strategist, builder, giver, mentor, intercessor, and more. The same man who wrote Psalm 51 also organized the Levites into functional teams (1 Chronicles 23). The same man who defeated Goliath also showed mercy to a forgotten, disabled man named Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9).
He didn’t pick one lane and stay there. He served wherever the assignment required.
Your gifts aren’t in competition with each other. They’re all on the table.

Sermon notes: Kingdom service doesn’t start and end at the church door.
Acts 13:36 says David served the purpose of God in his own generation. Not just in the temple. Not just in the palace. In his generation. His whole life was the assignment.
That’s the reframe. Your workplace is a mission field. Your family is a ministry. Your creative gifts, your finances, your influence, all of it counts. God isn’t looking for people with titles. He’s looking for people with availability.
