Trusting God for Our Daily Bread

On Sunday, 19 July 2026, District Rector Shepherd Theo Baker conducted the Divine Service in the Moorreesburg Congregation.

The choir created a reverent atmosphere through their renditions of "They That Wait Upon the Lord," "Thou Leadest to Grace," and concluded the service with "In God Is Our Trust."

The Bible text for the sermon was taken from Matthew 6:11: "Give us this day our daily bread."

District Rector Baker reminded the congregation that our "daily bread" includes everything God graciously provides—our health, work, family, and spiritual well-being. The congregation was encouraged to trust God daily, not allowing the pursuit of earthly needs or fear of the future to overshadow their relationship with Him. The message further highlighted the importance of generosity, community, and approaching Holy Communion with sincere repentance and gratitude.

Priest Chriswin van der Vent served alongside the District Rector, emphasising that while physical bread sustains the body, the Bread of Life received through Holy Communion nourishes the soul and transforms us to become more like Christ.

During the Divine Service, Deacon Conrad Ohlson and Sister Marion Ohlson received a Silver Wedding Blessing, with Lamentations 3:22–23 reminding all present of God's unfailing mercy and faithfulness.

The Divine Service concluded with a deep sense of gratitude as the congregation reflected on God's daily provision and His abundant grace.

A blessed Midweek Divine Service and Bible Study was held in the Moorreesburg Congregation, conducted by District Rector Shepherd Theo Baker.

Drawing from the lives of John the Baptist and the Scripture reading, District Rector Baker reminded the congregation that, like John, we are called to lead others to Christ. Our purpose is not to seek recognition or elevate ourselves, but to faithfully point others to the Lord.

The message encouraged everyone to embrace a life of humility, service, and unwavering commitment to God's calling, remembering that true greatness is found in glorifying Christ rather than ourselves.
The Divine Service concluded with the congregation joyfully singing Hymnal 13 – "He Is Exalted."

YOUNG PEOPLE DIVINE SERVICE – MOORREESBURG CONGREGATION

A blessed and inspiring Young People Divine Service was held in the Moorreesburg Congregation, conducted by Apostle Ferdie Lekay. The service was attended by the rectors of the Malmesbury District, with District Rector Shepherd Theo Baker and Priest Justin Hendricks being called upon to share words of encouragement with the young people.

"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!'"

In his sermon, Apostle Lekay reminded the young people that faith and doubt can often exist in the same heart. Like the father in the Bible account, we are encouraged to come honestly before the Lord, acknowledging our weaknesses while choosing to trust Him. True faith is not the absence of questions but the decision to remain in God's presence, where doubt gives way to hope and confidence.

Drawing on the example of Moses leading God's people towards Canaan, the Apostle encouraged the youth to continue following Jesus, who leads us into our promised future. The message centred on staying close to the Lord, trusting Him completely, and allowing Him to strengthen our faith each day.

Priest Justin Hendricks encouraged the young people to remain steadfast in the calling they have accepted, reminding them that nothing should distance them from the love of God. Referring to Hebrews 11, he emphasised living a life of faith, purpose, and joy.

District Rector, Shepherd Theo Baker acknowledged that it is natural to have questions and moments of uncertainty. He encouraged the youth not to struggle alone but to bring their doubts to the Lord in prayer and seek guidance from God's servants rather than the influences of the world. His encouragement was simple yet powerful: "Moenie oppak nie."

The service concluded with the hymn "How Excellent", after which the Young People Choir presented a beautiful choral programme. The morning ended with a warm time of fellowship, allowing everyone to enjoy one another's company and reflect on the blessings received during the service.

DIVINE SERVICE – MALMESBURY WEST CONGREGATION

A blessed Divine Service was held in the Malmesbury West Congregation, where the congregation had the privilege of receiving the visit of Apostle Lekay, who ministered the Word of God to the believers with grace and inspiration.

Priest Michael Garisch was called up to serve alongside the Apostle.

📖 Bible Text:
John 17:20–21
“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”

Message:

The central message of the Divine Service focused on the prayer of Jesus for unity among His believers. The Apostle emphasized that this unity is not only structural or outward, but a deep spiritual oneness rooted in Christ Himself. Believers were encouraged to strive for reconciliation, peace, and love within the body of Christ, so that their lives may be a testimony to the world of God’s sending of His Son.

Sacramental Highlight:

A special highlight of the service was the sealing of two souls, who were received into the fellowship of the Holy Spirit through the sacrament of Holy Sealing.

The congregation experienced a blessed and uplifting Divine Service and departed with renewed joy, faith, and commitment to live in unity with Christ and one another.
