THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD

"The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him..." — Isaiah 11:2

The first attribute of the seven-fold Spirit is simply: The Spirit of the Lord.

Before wisdom.
Before understanding.
Before counsel.
Before power.

There is first the presence of God Himself.

Isaiah prophesied that the Spirit of the Lord would rest upon the coming Messiah. This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus was baptised and began His public ministry.

The Spirit of the Lord speaks of God's divine presence resting upon a person for His purposes and glory. Everything Jesus did flowed from His relationship with the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit upon Him.

The seven-fold Spirit is not seven different spirits, but one Holy Spirit revealing the fullness of His ministry.

As believers, we are invited to live in dependence upon Him, allowing His presence to shape our character, direct our steps, and empower us to fulfil God's calling.

"The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord." — Isaiah 11:2 (NKJV)

THE SEVEN-FOLD SPIRIT OF GOD

When the Bible speaks of the "seven Spirits of God" in Revelation, it is not referring to seven different spirits. It is a picture of the Holy Spirit in the fullness and perfection of His ministry.

Isaiah prophesied that the Spirit would rest upon Jesus in seven distinct ways:
✨ The Spirit of the Lord
✨ The Spirit of Wisdom
✨ The Spirit of Understanding
✨ The Spirit of Counsel
✨ The Spirit of Power
✨ The Spirit of Knowledge
✨ The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord

"The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord." — Isaiah 11:2 (NKJV)

The same Holy Spirit who rested upon Jesus now lives within every believer.

Over the coming days, we will take a closer look at each of these beautiful attributes and discover how the Holy Spirit leads, teaches, strengthens, equips, and transforms us.

This is not seven different spirits.
It is one Holy Spirit revealing the fullness of who He is.

Which of these seven attributes speaks most to your heart right now?

Yesterday's message reminded us that we are living in a time of incredible technological advancement. Information is available instantly, and answers are only a few clicks away.

Yet there is an important question every believer should ask:

When we need wisdom, guidance, comfort, or direction, where do we turn first?

Technology can provide information.
The Holy Spirit provides transformation.

Artificial intelligence can answer questions.
The Holy Spirit leads us into truth.

Search engines can tell us what people think.
The Holy Spirit reveals the heart of God.

There is nothing wrong with using tools and technology, but they were never meant to replace our dependence on God.

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would guide His people:

"However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth..."
— John 16:13 (NKJV)

As we continue our study of the Holy Spirit, may we be reminded to seek His voice above every other voice and His wisdom above every other source.

The question is not whether we are listening.

The question is: who are we listening to first?

As we conclude this week's reflections on our Holy Spirit Bible Study, we are reminded that the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth.

Jesus said:

"However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth..."
— John 16:13 (NKJV)

We live in a world filled with opinions, distractions, and competing voices. Yet God has not left His children to navigate life alone.

The Holy Spirit guides us into truth—not only truth about God, but truth about ourselves, our purpose, and the path we should walk.

He teaches us through God's Word.
He helps us discern what is right.
He points us to Jesus.
He reveals the heart of the Father.

The more we listen to His voice, the more clearly we learn to walk in His ways.

As we head into the weekend, may we make room to hear the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to guide us into all truth.

THERE IS MORE

So often we settle for surviving spiritually, while God desires for us to walk daily in fellowship with Him through His Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit was never meant to be a distant idea in Scripture —
He is present,
He speaks,
He teaches,
He transforms,
and He continually points us to Jesus.

Tomorrow we gather again as a church family to worship, grow, and spend time in God’s presence together.

And tomorrow evening we continue our Bible study on:
The Person, Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit

Whether you have been walking with God for years or are simply hungry to know Him more deeply, you are welcome to join us.
