Why Don't Seventh-day Adventists Eat Pork?
Many people say, "Jesus already made pork clean, so Christians can eat anything."
Let's see what the Bible actually says.
God called the pig unclean in Leviticus 11. This was not because pigs are evil, but because God, our Creator, knows what is best for us.
Then people ask, "What about Mark 7? Didn't Jesus make all foods clean?"
Read the whole chapter carefully. The issue was not pork. The Pharisees were criticizing Jesus' disciples for eating without washing their hands according to Jewish tradition. Jesus explained that dirty hands do not make a person spiritually unclean. He was correcting a man-made tradition—not changing God's instruction about clean and unclean animals.
Others point to Acts 10, where Peter saw a vision of different animals.
But Peter himself explained the vision:
"God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean." (Acts 10:28)
Peter did not say, "Pork is now clean." He said the vision was about people—that Gentiles should no longer be treated as unclean.
So why don't Seventh-day Adventists eat pork?
Because we cannot find a single verse where God says the pig became clean to eat. Since God never changed what He called unclean, we choose to continue following His instruction.
This is not about earning salvation. The Bible is clear that we are saved only by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
We simply believe that if God is our Creator, then we can trust His instructions. Just as we trust a car manufacturer to tell us what fuel to use, we trust God to tell us what is best for the bodies He created.
We don't avoid pork because we're trying to be saved. We avoid it because we trust the One who saved us.
