*Official Statement | Gates of Destiny*
Gates of Destiny condemns in the strongest terms all acts of violence and attacks targeting foreign nationals in our communities.
Every human being is created in the image of God and deserves dignity, safety, and respect — regardless of nationality, origin, or background. Violence against foreigners contradicts Scripture’s call to love our neighbor and to welcome the stranger among us.
We affirm that the borders of our country must be tightly controlled. The concerning presence of illegal foreigners due to porous borders is a legitimate national security and economic issue. This must be addressed through proper legal channels, sound policy, and law enforcement.
However, this reality does not give South Africans the right to take the law into their own hands by attacking foreigners. Justice, accountability, and border security must be pursued through lawful, orderly processes — not through mob violence, intimidation, or hatred.
We further appeal to the rest of Africa and the international community to understand the underlying frustration experienced by many South Africans. Persistent high unemployment, limited economic resources, and pressure on public health and social services have placed significant strain on communities. These socio-economic realities must be acknowledged as part of any constructive dialogue.
We also emphasize that acts of violence against foreign nationals do not represent the position or actions of all South Africans. The majority of citizens reject xenophobia and remain committed to the principles of Ubuntu, peaceful coexistence, and the rule of law.
Let us also remember that South Africans live, work, and study in many other African countries. We must act with wisdom and restraint, for how we treat others here can directly affect the safety and dignity of our own brothers and sisters abroad.
We therefore urge that the national focus be directed at the root causes of public frustration: the government’s inadequate response to illegal immigration, and the criminal networks of drug dealers who are destroying the future of our youth. The fight is not with the innocent majority of foreign nationals who are making an honest living and contributing positively to our economy and communities.
We stand with all victims of these attacks and call on law enforcement to act swiftly to protect lives and bring perpetrators to justice. We urge all citizens, our congregations, and communities to reject division. Our strength as a nation is found in unity, compassion, and upholding the rule of law for all.
As a network of churches, Gates of Destiny commits to praying for peace, promoting dialogue between communities, and supporting anyone affected by these incidents.
