How should Catholics respond when immigration enforcement reaches families, parishes, schools, and communities?

On Thursday, September 17, the WSCC will welcome J. Kevin Appleby for a Life. Justice. Peace. webinar, “A Catholic Response to Mass Deportations.”

Participants will explore Catholic Social Teaching and immigration enforcement, practical questions surrounding engagement with ICE in sensitive locations such as parishes and schools, and the roles Catholics can play through public action, advocacy, and accompaniment.

Kevin Appleby is Senior Fellow for Policy and Communications at the Center for Migration Studies of New York and previously spent 17 years directing migration policy and public affairs for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

FORMED: Una vida por otra: Maximiliano Kolbe

Auschwitz, 1941. Uno de los prisioneros, llamado Jan, escapa del campo de concentración alemán mientras trabaja en una gravera. Gracias a la ayuda de personas de buen corazón encuentra albergue. Ahí, Jan escucha la trágica noticia de diez prisioneros escogidos al azar que fueron sentenciados a morir por hambre por los mismos n***s como castigo por su fuga. Entre los convictos se encontraba el Padre Maximiliano Kolbe, un sacerdote franciscano quien de manera voluntaria tomó el lugar de uno de los presos elegidos al azar para morir.

But throughout, Kolbe’s appeal to their shared humanity and Polish identity forges a brotherhood that culminates in a poignant act of sacrifice that echoes beyond the cell, illuminating hope in one of history’s darkest moments.
