A Historic Moment in Philadelphia!
History is being honored—and a legacy is being recognized!

Join us for the Official Street Renaming Ceremony of Bishop Richard Allen Way as we celebrate the life, legacy, and enduring impact of Bishop Richard Allen, founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and a trailblazer in Black history.

📅 Wednesday, October 7, 2026
⏰ 11:00 AM — Official Street Renaming Ceremony
📍 Corner of 6th & Lombard Streets, Philadelphia

The day begins at 9:00 AM with a gathering at Historic St. George’s United Methodist Church, followed by a 10:00 AM walk to Mother Bethel AME Church, culminating in the official street renaming ceremony and celebration at 11:00 AM.

This special occasion is even more meaningful as Mother Bethel AME Church sits on the oldest parcel of land continuously owned by African Americans, purchased by Bishop Richard and Flora Allen in 1791.

Come be part of this historic celebration as we honor faith, freedom, Black excellence, and a legacy that continues to shape Philadelphia and our nation.
