BY FAITH ALONE...

All people at all times have been justified by faith and not by the law.

If we are not careful, we will think that in the Old Testament under the old covenant, people were justified by the law, and that in the New Testament, under the new covenant, people were justified by faith....

But it has always been by faith alone that people have been justified.

All people, at all times, have been justified by faith, not by the law or circumcision, but by faith. And his faith was accounted to him as righteousness. Paul makes this case in Galatians 3.

THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW

"The law came to expose the fact that sin is much worse than we think it is...the law is good because it shows us our need for a savior. And brothers and sisters, we desperately need a savior."

The Mona Lisa and The Gospel

"Brothers and sisters, if you are in Christ, in Christ the law has been fulfilled. It's not a matter of what you have done. It is simply a matter of what He has done."

Then, using the Mona Lisa, Jonathan Wenger explains what would happen if anyone decided to add some color to the painting in an attempt to improve it, demonstrating that adding one's works to the work of Christ as a means of justification only diminishes the significance of what Jesus has done.
