Good Thursday morning from Melnik! Today's meditation from Pastor Steve: Follow

Dearly Beloved,
Grace and Peace to you.

Follow

As Jesus was walking along,
he saw a man called Matthew
sitting at the tax-collection station,
and he said to him, “Follow me.”
And he got up and followed him.
—Matthew 9.9

The voice of freedom or justice,
the song of beauty or healing,
the call of the Beloved, is not a shout.
It's merely the hum of life
that begs your harmony.

You're going about your life, plain as always,
when something ineffable, moving
in a different direction, tugs at you,
like the aroma of bread baking:
an urge, a subtle leaning, an invitation.
Your presence is requested.
Learn to stop and attend.

Perhaps in a moment of stillness,
maybe in a rush of trying so hard—
a compass needle wobbles.
Stop and attend.

You are not especially wise or gifted;
your faith is no stronger than anyone else's.
Don't question why you are chosen;
the only way to know is to follow.
It may be a life-changing endeavor,
or a moment's simple act of love. Follow.

Never stop listening.

Deep Blessings,
Pastor Steve

In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise. Psalm 56:10

Dear Lord, we ask you to show us your way as we start a new month. Thank you for your son who always knew how to show love and compassion to those around him. May we approach this month to be of good service to those around us. Amen.

Today's Scripture Text from Clergy Stuff:
Acts 4:32-37, The Believers Share Their Possessions

“Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.”
— Acts 4:32-33

What made it possible for the believers to go out and give testimony? All their basic needs were met. Because of their model of sharing all their possessions and living communally, the work-load was shared, they had adequate food, clothing, and shelter, and didn’t have to worry about how to support themselves 24/7. This gave them the freedom in their spare time to go out and witness.

A young-adult friend of mine is really struggling with working full time due to her various mental health and minor physical issues. She’s perpetually exhausted and has very little time for the hours-long bike rides she used to take before her full-time job—rides which are so critical to her mental well-being. She asked me how life was worth it if everyone had to struggle so much just for basic survival. It really gave me pause. And then I read this and thought: the early Christians had it right.

Imagine how much love, how much creativity, how much healing could be unleashed on the world if we did a better job societally of taking care of each other’s needs. It worked for the early Christians—they gave testimony with great power, and grace was upon them all. How cool is that?

Do I find time to do things I’m passionate about? Why or why not?

Good Thursday morning from Melnik!

Be sure to stay hydrated as these temperatures keep rising. Aren't you glad it is not officially summer until next month!

Today's meditation from Pastor Steve: By your example

Dearly Beloved,
Grace and Peace to you.

By your example

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.
—Matthew 28.19

By your example,
you can make of anyone you meet
a student of love,
a practitioner of kindness,
a follower in the way
of deep trust in grace.
By your example
you may so touch people
that something in them heals;
you can so intrigue people
that they want to follow.

You will not convince anyone.
But you may allure them.
They will not drop everything,
but something in them may be changed.

It's not you, of course,
it's the Spirit you bear.

Be a vessel.

Deep Blessings,
Pastor Steve

Happy day after Memorial Day from Melnik!

May God keep you close and shower you with blessings, grace and peace.

Now there were devout Jews from every people under heaven living in Jerusalem. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “In our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” Acts 2:5,7,11

God of all nations, your love never ends, and your faithfulness reaches every corner of the world. Open our hearts to your spirit’s movement, that we may share your goodness with all people. Let our voices join in praising your mighty works. Amen.

We are very grateful to the Denmark VFW Post 6705 for conducting the annual Memorial Day Remembrance Service at the Melnik Presbyterian Church Cemetery
Melnik Road, Town of Gibson.

This year, they paid tribute to Harlan Hussong, US Army, Korean War and his son Terry, US Navy (USS Mississippi (CGN-40), both members of the Melnik congregation.

A Prayer for Memorial DayHeavenly Father,Today we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We honor their ultimate sacrifice, their courage, and their devotion to the cause of freedom.

Comfort the families who still grieve the loss of their loved ones. Wrap them in Your peace and remind them that their heartaches are not forgotten.Grant wisdom to our leaders, protection to those currently serving, and a spirit of unity to our nation.

Help us to live in a way that honors the legacy of those we lost. Turn our hearts toward peace, so that one day, swords may be beaten into plowshares and war will be known no more.

Amen.
