A first-class relic of St. Aloysius Gonzaga will be on display in the church this Sunday (Jun. 21, his feast day) from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM for people to come in and venerate. St. Aloysius Gonzaga holds a special place in the hearts of many Westphalians for a number of reasons, one of which is because his mosaic is in the south transept of the church.

Another reason is because of his patronage, as he is the patron saint of young students and of Christian youth. St. Aloysius Gonzaga lived from 1568 to 1591 and died at the age of 23, and stands as a testament to the ways in which God can work through young people to impact the world.

If you touch an item on Sunday to his relic, YOUR item will become a third-class relic.

St. Aloysius Gonzaga, pray for us!

This Saturday (June 13) is the feast day of St. Anthony of Padua (yes, THE St. Anthony), and his relic will be on display in the church from 5:30-7:30 PM for people to come in and venerate. St. Anthony lived from 1195 to 1231, so this just goes to show how rare it is to possess a relic this old.

If you touch an item (a rosary, scapular, chain, etc.) to his, then YOUR item becomes a third-class relic.

St. Anthony is the patron saint of A LOT of things, but perhaps most notably: of miracles, travelers, finding one's spouse, pregnancy, harvests, animals, lost items, lost people, lost souls, sterility, the sick, the disabled and the elderly. He is best known for being the saint people pray to when they've lost an item, but this thought also occurred: what are YOU looking for in this life that isn't a tangible item? If you're unable to find whatever that is, he's the saint to turn to.

Lastly, St. Anthony was born in Lisbon, Portugal, and the parishioners who attended World Youth Day three years ago had the chance to visit his birthplace, in which a massive cathedral was built over his home. Visiting the ancient cathedral created a connection between St. Anthony and many of the Westphalia parishioners. Below are some pictures from that experience.

St. Anthony, pray for us

We will be holding one of our biggest fundraisers of the year this weekend, selling sausage and desserts in the St. Mary's Cafeteria after all the weekend Masses. All proceeds will go to our teenagers attending this summer's Steubenville retreat. Sausage will be available in both 1-pound tubes of frozen bulk and in 5-pound bags of links, while a WIDE variety of desserts will also be available. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We actually have a few spots still available for our Steubenville trip (July 17-19). If you know a P-W teenager currently in 8th-12th grade who you think would enjoy this trip, please have them contact Austin Fox at [email protected]. The theme of this year's conference is "Worthy" — you are NOT worthless, but instead WORTHY of Christ's infinite love for you.

Do you have a brother or sister who has fallen away from the Catholic faith? How about a cousin or even a son or daughter? Seeing our loved ones stray away from Christ is such a helpless feeling.

Join us tonight at 7:00 (and every Tuesday) in the church for our Lost Sheep Holy Hour, in which we place our loved ones in Jesus' hands. A rosary, divine mercy chaplet and other prayers are prayed, in hopes that our loved ones will soon see the love and mercy Jesus Christ has for them.

Check this out — we recently uploaded a video to our YouTube channel of the fire that burned Westphalia's church in 1959. The church was the predecessor to the one that is there now, and was built in 1867.
