Our next Steubenville teen testimony comes to us from MaKayla Krizov, a parish senior this year!

“There was a time when I had drifted away from God. I still believed in Him, but I wasn't making Him a priority in my life, and I was trying to figure everything out on my own. Then God placed someone in my life who encouraged me to grow in my faith and showed me what it looked like to have a real relationship with Christ. They didn't pressure me or have all the answers—they simply pointed me toward Him. I started taking small, intentional steps, like praying more often, going to Mass with an open heart, and learning more about my faith. Those baby steps slowly turned into a stronger relationship with God, even though I still had questions and struggled at times.

When I went to Steubenville, I expected it to be just another weekend, but God had something much bigger planned for me. Throughout the talks, worship, and especially during Adoration, I felt Him calling me closer than ever before. I realized that I am His beloved daughter and that He wasn't asking me to have everything figured out—He was simply asking me to trust Him. In that moment, I surrendered my life to Him and chose to follow His plan instead of my own. Since that weekend, my faith has continued to grow, and although I'm still learning every day, I know that every step has brought me closer to the person God created me to be.”

Steubenville Teen Testimony #2 comes from Maizie Pelc, a recent parish graduate!

Mark Twain famously said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why”. Before Steubenville, I knew I would get the most out of it if I went to confession first. I knew that I could only hear God's voice clearly if I allowed Him to remove the dirt from my heart. I made it a point to let my friends know that I desired to go, this way I would be both encouraged and held accountable by the people I was with. By standing in a line in the hot sun for an hour with hundreds of other youth waiting for the sacrament of healing, I was able to complete a vulnerable examination of conscience. Following this, I was blessed to share my confession with a priest who was able to guide my thinking and uplift my confidence in my identity as a daughter of the Lord. For my penance, he asked me to pray in front of a crucifix for three minutes, thanking the Lord for his sacrifice on the cross. Instead of a small, private crucifix, the Lord told me to pray in front of the bigger-then-life size crucifix that sat in the same area as the line for confession. Receiving the sacrament of healing allowed me to experience God's great love in a way I have never before. As I sat in front of the cross, the Lord continually reminded me of how good he created me. He calmed my shame and anxieties, overcoming them with peace. He had prepared my heart for what was to come. I was looking forward to the evening for Steubenville's main event of Adoration and Eucharistic procession.

Sitting in the fieldhouse for the procession, the lights were dim, the altar was lit with candles, the aroma of incense comforted me, and you could feel the anticipation like a buzz from all of the youth awaiting Jesus’ entry. With a spotlight right on Him, Jesus entered the room from the back doors, walking down the center aisle. The priest held Him high, and placed him on the altar. At this moment, I had been communicating with God, telling him that I did not need the Holy Spirit to overwhelm me. I was already so content with the Lord and had felt so much peace. At big events like Steubenville, it is common to be touched by the Holy Spirit in a really unique way. This is where your body may be overcome with tears, laughter, warmth, shaking, or other similar physical responses. Experiencing this type of connection to God is delightfully overwhelming. I told God that I did not need this from Him, I already knew He was present. God, in his beauty, decided to overwhelm me with a fruit of the spirit I had never fully experienced until this moment. As I gazed on Jesus I could do nothing but smile, a smile that had never felt so genuine before. Internally, I was completed. As I kept my eyes fixed on Jesus, I felt like my soul was bursting with joy. I felt so spiritually close to Jesus. I had zero doubts of His love for me, and He asked me to watch Him, so I did. I watched as other people my age reached out to touch Him, collapsing the moment they made contact. I watched different individuals make eye contact with Him, followed by weeps that could have only meant the savior was near. Seeing so many people joyful for Jesus, did nothing other than the same for me. This day became the most important day of my life.

This day marks the day I knew why I was born. I was born to be joyfully in love with Jesus and share this joy with everyone. Steubenville changed my life because I allowed it to. I would not have realized this “Jesus Joy” if I had not opened my heart fully to Him. My heart was like a door, bolted shut with sin and shame. The sacrament of Confession pulled each of the bolts out of the frame and Adoration opened the door completely.

Steubenville gave me the opportunity to experience Christ completely. Hard things such as vulnerability and openness become much easier when you know you are not alone and when you have a support system. Steubenville provides both of these. Being able to go with so many youth in my own community proved to me that I am not alone in my walk with Christ. Stepping into a confession line with hundreds of youth from all over the country gave me the confidence I needed. Finally, the Lord was able to prove His love through the thousands of individuals my age falling in love with Christ shamelessly, proudly, and joyfully.

Recently, we had a large group of students and chaperones attend the Steubenville Youth Conference with testimony after testimony of powerful moments by the Holy Spirit. Over the next few weeks we want to share some of those stories with you! We hope you are inspired by the youth in our parish as you experience the fire and love for our Lord! Our first one comes from Kaeden Brown, one of our parish seniors:

“This was my third time going to Steubenville and usually the most impactful part is the adoration procession on Saturday but, although that was still awesome, I think my favorite part was the talk by Paul Kim. This talk was a very good reminder that Heaven is real and we need to live our lives with that in mind.

During this session, he talked about his son, Micah, who died at the age of 5, and how he knows that Micah is in Heaven because of all of the people who have received borderline-miracles through his intercession. One of the coolest stories he told us was when he asked Micah if he could ask St. Carlo Acutis to ask his mom to call him because she would know well the grief he too was now experiencing of losing a child. The next day, St. Carlo Acutis’ mom called him and told him that she had a dream of Carlo asking her to call him.

Like I said above, all of this was to prove that Heaven is real and we need to live our lives knowing that this is true. We just recently had someone come in and talk about Our Lady of Fatima and he mentioned that we must pray that no more souls go to hell per Our Lady’s request. A huge part of this is praying the rosary every day with the Fatima prayer at the end of each mystery. Praying for Mary’s intercession and meditating on the life of Jesus through praying the Rosary is a very good way to get ourselves and others to Heaven, which is everyone’s primary vocation in life. “

Tuesday evening filled our hearts with joy and hope as the traveling statue of Our Lady of Fatima made a stop in our own Parish! Thank you to all who came out to worship with us at Mass and learn a little more about the message from the Blessed Mother when she revealed herself to the three children at Fatima! Her request for the children to spread the message to the world to pray and meditate on the life of Jesus through praying the Rosary every day, is a powerful way for us to fall deeper in love with our Lord. She asks us to conform our will to that of her Son’s and is always directing us to His sacred heart.

We are so grateful for opportunities such as this to come together as a faith community and worship our Lord for His incredible goodness! Our faith is such a gift and every little bit we learn gives us an opportunity to fall deeper in love with the Lord.
