In 1952, President Harry Truman instituted an official observance of a day of prayer for the nation following historical examples that dated back to the Second Continental Congress. This observance has continued to this day, that the first Thursday of May would be set aside for prayer and meditation.
As believers we are exhorted in I Thessalonians 5:17 to “Pray without ceasing” and in I Timothy 2:1-2 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”.
This Biblical pattern of prayer does not limit us to a specific day but gives us a prompting when we think of our nation and of its leaders of how to pray.
Below is a Prayer Prompter for this National Day of Prayer, a starting point for or Adoration of our Savior and King, Confession of our Sin before Him, Thanksgiving for God’s Provision, and Supplication for our individual and national needs.
1. Pray that the Word of God will be proclaimed with clarity, boldness, and holiness in churches across the United States.
Thank the Lord that His Word does not return void and will accomplish His will.
2. Pray that Bible believing churches across the United States remain faithful to God’s Word so that they will withstand spiritual attacks in an evil culture.
Thank the Lord for His power to not give in and be tolerant of sin.
3. Pray for effective global proclamation of the Gospel and hearts that are diligent in sharing the Good News.
Thank the Lord for each new believer as God builds His church, and for open doors of opportunity.
4. Pray for God’s faithful guidance of our homes & churches.
Thank the Lord for the heritage of Godliness and spiritual blessings.

Thank the Lord for our freedom to serve Him openly and for His protection and provision.
6. Pray for the needy, bereaved and suffering in our fellowship.
Thank the Lord for the faithfulness of those suffering for their faith in various parts of the world.
7. Pray for spiritual renewal in our country and the turning of hearts to Christ.
Thank the Lord for new churches planted and revitalized churches.
May God Bless the prayers of His Children!
