The Trinity County Fire Safe Council would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for attending our 2026 Trinity County Firewise Fair. We had 175 people in attendance and 18 different booths at the event, including a variety of vendors and multiple agencies providing educational resources. The musters were a fun touch to this year’s entertainment and we can't forget about the delicious tacos prepared by Hayfork Volunteer Fire Department. Community members had the opportunity to connect with local organizations, fundraise for their local fire department, and learn more about how to help their communities become more wildfire resilient.

A special thank you to our sponsors Wiley’s Supermarket, Trinity River Lumber Co., Hayfork Future Farmers of America, Pumpkin Bee Sewing, and Northern Delights for your donations.

Please reach out with ways we can improve the event, and we hope you will join us again next year. 🔥

The Watershed Center, along with the Trinity Integrated Fire Management Partnership and North State partners, is excited to conduct multiple cooperative prescribed burns starting tomorrow Monday, May 11th through Friday, May 15th. Pending favorable weather conditions, burning will take place in and around Hyampom.

The Watershed Center will be burning 5 miles east of Hyampom on Monday through Wednesday, and in eastern Hyampom off Hyampom Road on Thursday and Friday.

The team has acquired air quality permits from the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District and LE7 permits from CAL FIRE. Smoke will be visible from Hyampom Road, with ignitions starting after 10:00 AM each day. We will monitor for adequate smoke dispersion throughout the duration of the burn.

Prescribed fire is a critical tool in our land management toolbox. We appreciate your support!

Funding for this project is provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection as part of the California Climate Investments Program and by the USDA US Forest Service Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program.

Fire Savvy: Finding and Navigating Fire Information in California

Date/Time: Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 9 - 10 AM PST

Format: FREE webinar

As fire season ramps up, you may wonder how and where to find accurate, up-to-date fire information. The information space has evolved and grown in recent years, providing a richer set of resources, but also making it difficult to navigate and compare the available options. Join UC ANR Fire Network Director, Lenya Quinn-Davidson, for a conversation with some of the best minds in this space: Kevin Fetterman (Watch Duty), Zeke Lunder (The Lookout), and Daniel Swain (UC ANR). You will hear about the resources they each provide, how they find and curate their information, and how fire information plays out at different scales, from the individual fire incident to the larger landscape and climate.

BURN PERMITS REQUIRED

Redding/Weaverville – CAL FIRE, Shasta-Trinity Unit, will require burn permits for residential dooryard burning beginning at 8:00 A.M. on Friday, May 1, 2026. CAL FIRE encourages safe dooryard burning by residents to reduce fire risk.

CAL FIRE burn permits can only be obtained online at:
https://burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/.

Trinity/Eastern Trinity County: The North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District (NCUAQMD) requires that all burning must have both an AQMD and CAL FIRE burn permit prior to burning.

NCUAQMD burn permits can be obtained online at www.ncuaqmd.org. For more information, contact the NCUAQMD at (707) 443-3093. For burn day status, call NCUAQMD at (707) 443-7665 or (866) 287-6329. Burn zone information is listed in your AQMD burn permit.

Happy Firewise Fair Day!

Join us TODAY in Hayfork Park for the annual Trinity County Firewise Fair from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM!

This multi-organizational event brings fire resiliency resources to the people. Attendees can also enjoy delicious tacos prepared by the local volunteer fire departments and the popular “touch a truck” demonstration that allows kids and kids-at-heart to get up close and personal with fire engines and heavy equipment.

We’ll be raffling off prizes, sharing fire-themed documentaries featuring local fire practitioners in a viewing booth, and providing fun activities for all! This year we’ll be featuring “musters” (tug of war, bucket brigades) between USFS and CAL FIRE, as well as local volunteer fire departments in attendance!

Donations are gladly accepted to support the local volunteer fire departments. Come show your support for the people who help keep our communities safe and learn about all of the programs and services available to you to help you stay fire safe.
