Last night, our catechists gathered to start the year of Forming Young Disciples. Before the children and teens join us, we have two nights of formation for the leaders. Last night, Fr. Tom encouraged the group to be animators of the faith. Going on that theme,  they are not just animators, but also superheroes! The second photo is a reflection of that reality.

The Share Sunday collection for September will coincide with the annual Diaper & Baby Hygiene Drive of the Wausau area Knights of Columbus councils. Donated items will be distributed through the Babies’ Place and The Neighbor’s Place . Bring donations along to Mass on the first two weekends of the month or drop them off in the Gathering Space during the week. A NEW GRIEFSHARE SESSION BEGINS SEPT. 9 AT ST. MICHAEL
Each person’s grief is distinct. What’s often true, however, is the value of knowing you do not grieve alone. That’s why GriefShare is so important. GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who walk alongside you through a weekly meeting of presentations, discussions and prayer. Meetings are at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 9 in the St. Michael Gathering Space.

THE MISSION & MARTYRS PILGRIMAGE IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE A DIFFERENT CULTURE, TO SHARE OF ONESELF IN SERVICE, TO BREAK AWAY FROM NORMAL ROUTINES - TO STAND AND PRAY ON HOLY GROUND.
Spots remain to join the pilgrimage from Jan. 23-Feb. 1. It will include several days at the Mission of San Lucas Toliman, as well as visits to the places where Blessed James Miller and Blessed Stanley Rother were martyred. Contact Fr. Tom for more information.

A NEW BIBLE STUDY SERIES FOR THE FALL
Where did the Bible come from? Where do we begin to read it? How do we begin to understand it? Is there a particular Catholic approach to the Bible? You could think of it as Bible 101 as we consider these various questions and much more beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Church of the Resurrection and continuing on Tuesdays through the fall. This fall’s Wednesday night video/discussion series will travel with Bishop Robert Barron to more than 50 locations throughout 15 countries exploring the spiritual and artistic treasures of the Catholic Church. Journey deep into our faith in each episode of this highly acclaimed series. Sessions will be at 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Sept. 23.

The Season of Creation is an annual ecumenical observance held from Sept. 1 to Oct. 4 for Christians to pray and act to protect the environment. Here is a link to Pope Leo's message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, which initiates the season.

Here is a link to the Mass Pope Leo XVI celebrated on Tuesday, the the 11th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation and the opening of the Season of Creation.

Nominations are being sought to fill vacancies on the parish Pastoral Council. The Council meets for one hour about six times a year and is the pastor’s primary consultative body. It’s helpful that members participate regularly in Lord’s Day Mass and are involved in some other aspects of parish life. If you are willing to serve or know someone you think would serve well in this role, please send nominations to Fr. Tom by Aug. 31.

Catastrophic floods have swept through communities along Nepal’s Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river system, causing widespread devastation, sweeping away homes, livelihoods and critical infrastructure.

Hundreds of people have died and many more injured. Communities along the river have suffered severe damage, and thousands of homes have been struck. With roads, bridges, power lines, and communications destroyed or damaged, reaching some of the hardest-hit areas remains extremely difficult.

Families affected by the disaster urgently need safe shelter, food, clean water, hygiene supplies and other essential household items as search, rescue and emergency relief efforts continue.

Catholic Relief Services is closely monitoring the emergency and coordinating with Caritas Nepal and local partners to assess urgent needs and determine how best to support affected communities.
