Remembering and honoring all who were lost.

On this 25th anniversary of September 11, UUA President Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt reflects on the lives changed by that day and its aftermath, and on the grief that continues to be carried by so many.

As we remember those who died and hold close all whose lives were forever changed, we are also called to recognize the lasting impacts of September 11 in the years that followed—on families, communities, and people here in the United States and around the world.

As Rev. Dr. Betancourt reminds us, this is a moment to resist fear and hate and to recommit ourselves to healing, justice, pluralism, and love. May we meet this anniversary with compassion, care, and a renewed commitment to one another.

This Sunday at the UU of Valdosta:

Please join us for our annual ingathering at the beginning of the new church year! On Sunday, Sept. 13, we will celebrate being together at the UU Church of Valdosta, with the water communion, a tradition we share with UU congregations across the country.

For our Water Ceremony during the service, bring a small container of water to mingle in a shared bowl (we will also have some available, of course). Be prepared, if you wish, to share a sentence or two of the significance of the water to you or an intention for the upcoming year.

The combined water is symbolic of our shared faith coming from many different sources. At the end of the ceremony, we will pour the water at the four corners of our entranceway as a blessing for the new church year.

Our service begins at 10:45 a.m. Meditation meets in the sanctuary from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m., facilitated by Matthew Mixon. Please plan to stay for coffee and snacks and a time to visit after the service.

Join us tomorrow, September 6th at 10:45am

This time of year brings memories of some really scary events in our recent history; events that left many people looking for answers and a path forward. As UUs, we may not have easy answers and, while on our search, we find more questions than we do answers. This Sunday, we will look to some UU Ministers for guidance on where to turn when we are faced with difficult times. We will examine what faith may look like in our faith tradition that is Unitarian Universalism. Kimberly Tanner will read our message and Raynaé Jones will serve as Layleader.
