WHAT'S THE PLAY ABOUT?

The Marvelous Wonderettes is a lively jukebox musical that follows four high school friends as they perform at their 1958 senior prom. Filled with hit songs from the 1950s, the show captures the excitement, friendships, and teenage dreams of the era.

In the second act, the story reunites the women ten years later, where music from the 1960s helps tell how their lives and relationships have changed.
Packed with humor, heart, and nostalgic yet challenging tunes, The Marvelous Wonderettes is a feel-good musical about friendship, growing up, and the memories that stay with us.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We seek female actors, singers, and dancers of all ethnicities, ages 18 to 35 for this production.

WHAT ROLES ARE AVAILABLE?

CINDY LOU (Female, Vocal Range G3-E5) – knows she is the prettiest girl at Springfield High. She assumes she will be named Prom Queen and acts out against best friend Betty Jean when things don’t go her way. She makes the biggest change between Act I and Act II, having learned the lessons of true love and loss.

MISSY (Female, Vocal Range G3-C6) – is the overachiever of the group. Very controlled and controlling, and extremely concerned that everything at the prom turns out wonderful and perfect. An elementary school teacher in-the-making, she is head of the prom decorations committee, and absolutely smitten with her music teacher, Mr. Lee. Her best friend is Suzy.

BETTY JEAN (Female, Vocal Range E3-F #5) – is the class clown and tomboy, always vying for attention with her best friend Cindy Lou. Cindy Lou steals Betty Jean’s boyfriend away, which causes a lot of friction at the prom. She holds a grudge against Cindy Lou until they make up at the 10-year reunion.

SUZY (Female, Vocal Range G3-E5) – is sometimes stereotyped as the ditzy blonde because she is always smiling and giggling - nothing ever seems to bother her. Suzy is in love with the lighting operator, Ritchie Stevens, and completely surprised when named Prom Queen. Frustrated, sad, hormonal, Suzy is pregnant in Act II. Her best friend is Missy.

WHERE WILL AUDITIONS BE HELD?

All auditions and rehearsals will be in person at the Pollard Theatre Center.

WHAT SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE AUDITION?

Those auditioning are asked to prepare 16 measures of a 50’s or 60’s style song to be sung with recorded accompaniment. A sound system will be available for the playing of background tracks and there will be an accompanist available. A Capella Auditions will not be allowed. The score features beautiful but challenging four-part harmonies that require every voice to work together seamlessly.

Please dress for movement (no jeans, sandals, flip flops, etc.) as there will be a short dance combination taught as part of the audition.

Callbacks will be August 13th. Please be prepared for “cold-readings” from the script.

WHEN WILL REHEARSALS BE HELD?

Rehearsals will begin Monday, August 17th. Sunday will generally run @ 2-5 (Every other Sunday off), MON/TUES/THURS @ 6:30-9:30. Adjustments may be made according to the needs of the cast.

WHAT DATES WILL THE SHOW RUN?

Production dates are October 22-25.

After the success of Singin' in the Rain tap dancing its way into people's hearts, the question that may be on your mind is: what's next?

With so many incredible productions to choose from, we at Pollard Theater are hard at work readying for the next show that will have you humming on the way out, tapping your toes in your seat, and counting down the days until opening night. Big things are coming… and trust us, you won’t want to miss what’s next.

And that's a wrap! After months of rehearsals, fine tuning, learning new skills, and giving these classic characters life on stage, Singin' in the Rain has come to a close at Pollard Theater.
We want to thank everyone who has taken part in this show - cast, crew, audiences, interviewers, and volunteers for the day. You are more appreciated than you know.
Hats off and umbrellas up! Cheers to a job well done and for this great opportunity to bring Singin' in the Rain to the Pollard stage. Onto the next!

And just like that... our final show today at 2 PM is sold out.
We want to thank everyone who has supported this amazing cast and crew, and today we give a big shout out to our two understudies - Elissa Thompson (ensemble, und. for Kathy) and Michael Robins II (J. Cumberland Spendrill III, und. for Don). Though they may not have had to step in as these roles, they have dedicated their time and efforts to be ready to jump in and have brought forth incredible stand out moments in the show which you will see today!
Elissa voices Lina in her chaotic dream sequence of "What's Wrong With Me?" and Michael gives a swoon-worthy rendition of "Beautiful Girl" which also includes Elissa!
We have one more show, ladies and gentlemen, and we are ready to give it our all - especially these two who have kept all of the wonderful characters they portray (or might portray) in mind throughout the process. 🍾
