šŸ’™ Evangelization Begins with the Human Heart

When many people think about evangelization, they often imagine traveling to distant places or reaching communities far away. But as Pope Francis has reminded us, evangelization is also about entering the ā€œhidden placesā€ of the human heart — bringing hope, compassion, faith, and love to people right where they are.

True ministry is not only about geography. It is about presence.

It’s about listening to people’s stories, walking alongside them during difficult moments, offering encouragement, and helping others encounter the love of Christ in meaningful and personal ways. Sometimes the greatest impact comes not through grand gestures, but through simple acts of kindness, understanding, and genuine connection.

For many who serve within the Diocese of Tucson, one of the greatest blessings has been the opportunity to touch hearts, accompany people in their faith journeys, and help bring healing, hope, and spiritual renewal to our community.

At The Catholic Foundation, we are continually inspired by those who dedicate their lives to serving others and sharing the Gospel not only through words, but through compassion, presence, and love in action.

Faith has the power to transform hearts — one relationship, one conversation, and one act of grace at a time.

šŸ™ The Sacrament of Anointing Is About Healing, Strength, and Grace

Many people mistakenly associate the Sacrament of Anointing solely with death or the final moments of life. But in reality, the Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament for the living — a sacrament of healing, comfort, and spiritual strength.

Historically, this misunderstanding grew during the plagues that swept through Europe in the 1500s and 1600s. Families would call for a priest when loved ones became gravely ill, and because so many people sadly passed away during those times, the sacrament gradually became connected in people’s minds with death rather than healing.

But the Church has always taught something much deeper.

The Sacrament of Anointing is meant to bring God’s grace, peace, courage, and strength to those facing illness, surgery, aging, or difficult health challenges. It reminds us that Christ walks with us in suffering and that we are never alone in moments of fear or uncertainty.

For many Catholics, this sacrament becomes a powerful reminder of hope, healing, and God’s loving presence during life’s most vulnerable moments.

At The Catholic Foundation, we are grateful for the beauty of the sacraments and the faith traditions that continue to strengthen and guide our communities every day.

With grateful hearts, we extend our sincere thanks to the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson for awarding a generous $7,000 grant to support our youth from St. Anthony of Padua as they prepare to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in California this November 2026.

History, faith, sacrifice, and remembrance came together in a powerful way at Santa Cruz Catholic Church as the community honored the 90th anniversary of the Discalced Carmelite Martyrs who once ministered throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona. āœļø

The article from the Diocese of Tucson highlights the lives and legacy of five Carmelite friars who served the faithful in Tucson, mining communities across Arizona, and among the Pascua Yaqui people before being martyred during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Their dedication to faith and service continues to inspire generations today. ([Home | New Outlook][1])

At The Catholic Foundation, we believe preserving and sharing these stories is deeply important. Our Catholic heritage is built upon individuals who courageously lived their faith and helped shape the spiritual life of our communities. Events like this remind us that the Church’s history in Southern Arizona is rich with devotion, sacrifice, and enduring hope.

The remembrance Mass at Santa Cruz Catholic Church also reflects the growing effort to ensure the Carmelite Martyrs are never forgotten, including plans for a shrine honoring their ministry and sacrifice. ([Santa Cruz Catholic Church][2])

We invite you to read this meaningful article and reflect on the enduring impact these faithful servants continue to have on our Diocese and community.

The Catholic Foundation was blessed to travel about 2.5 hours from Tucson to Safford to spend time at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish and the vibrant communities it serves.

We enjoyed lunch with Father Nicodemus, pastor of St. Rose of Lima, and more than 25 dedicated staff and ministry volunteers. We also toured the parish’s new school opening this fall. Our visit continued to the Newman Center in Thatcher, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Solomon, San Jose Mission in San Jose, and St. Martin de Porres Mission in Pima. These visits are a meaningful reminder that the Catholic Foundation is committed to being present in every corner of our Diocese.

As grant recipients of the Catholic Foundation, this parish, school, and its missions reflect the impact of supporting communities across our Diocese. It was a joy to witness such strong faith and dedication in action.

šŸ’ This Mother’s Day, We Celebrate the Women Who Shape Our Faith and Our Families

Today, we honor the mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers who give so selflessly—nurturing not only their families, but the faith and values that guide future generations.

Through their love, patience, and devotion, they reflect the compassion and grace that strengthen our communities and our Church.

At the Catholic Foundation, we are reminded every day of the powerful role mothers play in shaping lives, building strong families, and inspiring faith in action.

To all the incredible women who lead with love and serve with heart—thank you.

May God bless you abundantly today and always.

Happy Mother’s Day šŸ’›
