A great day for the Diocese of Tucson! I spent the day with Bishop-elect Anthony Corcoran, SJ, at the New Bishop's School in Rome. Bishop-elect Corcoran will be ordained to be the Bishop of Kyrgyzstan in just two weeks. He has deep spiritual roots in our diocese and Cochise County, being baptized at St. Andrew's Catholic Church Sierra Vista, AZ. Let us keep our friend in our prayers as he prepares for this new mission as a successor of the Apostles.

This morning at New Bishops School we welcomed Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the recently retired Apostolic Nuncio to the US, as the principal celebrant for the Mass. Several of the American bishops who were ordained during the cardinal's time as nuncio joined for a group photo. We then had a wonderful visit over breakfast where he remembered fondly his visit to Tucson earlier this year.

Our Vocations Director, Fr. Luis Pablo Ochoa-Escarrega, and I had a wonderful trip to San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico to visit Bishop José Leopoldo Gonzalez Gonzalez. We shared time talking about ministry there in Central Mexico and our ministry here in Southern Arizona and the possibility of forging a partnership where we might receive some of their priests and our priests and seminarians might have the opportunity for extended trips to Diócesis de San Juan de los Lagos for ministry and strengthening their Spanish. Our day was highlighted by their invitation for me to celebrate Mass in the shrine of Our Lady of San Juan, the 2nd most visited pilgrimage site in Mexico after the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos, ruega por nosotros!
