Diocese of Tucson

Diocese of Tucson Welcome to the Official page for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson. The Diocese of Tucson was established by Pope Leo XIII on May 8, 1897.

The diocese comprises nine counties in the state of Arizona, making it the fifth largest Roman Catholic diocese in the continental United States in terms of area. The diocese oversees 78 parishes, dozens of missions, 25 Catholic schools, and hundreds of charitable and fraternal organizations. The current Bishop of Tucson is Most Reverend Edward Weisenburger, who was appointed by His Holiness Pope

Francis on October 3, 2017. The cathedral parish for the Diocese of Tucson is St. Augustine Cathedral. Please note that the Diocese of Tucson Pastoral Center at Cathedral Square is currently closed to the public until further notice because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Diocesan offices continue to operate with most employees working from home, checking email and voicemail during work hours.

On August 29, the Church commemorates the Passion of St. John the Baptist, a courageous witness who remained faithful to the truth, even at the cost of his life.

May his example inspire us to speak with courage, live with conviction, and always point others toward Christ.

St. John the Baptist, pray for us. 🙏

Today, August 28, the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, one of the great teachers of our Catholic faith.

His journey from searching and uncertainty to a life devoted to Christ reminds us that our hearts find their true rest in God.

"You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in You.”

St. Augustine, pray for us. 🙏
