Diocese of Tucson Welcome to the Official page for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson. The Diocese of Tucson was established by Pope Leo XIII on May 8, 1897.

The diocese comprises nine counties in the state of Arizona, making it the fifth largest Roman Catholic diocese in the continental United States in terms of area. The diocese oversees 78 parishes, dozens of missions, 25 Catholic schools, and hundreds of charitable and fraternal organizations. The current Bishop of Tucson is Most Reverend Edward Weisenburger, who was appointed by His Holiness Pope

Francis on October 3, 2017. The cathedral parish for the Diocese of Tucson is St. Augustine Cathedral. Please note that the Diocese of Tucson Pastoral Center at Cathedral Square is currently closed to the public until further notice because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Diocesan offices continue to operate with most employees working from home, checking email and voicemail during work hours.

Our Bishop Emeritus Gerald Kicanas recently celebrated Mass for Monsignor Carlos Romero at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Yuma. Monsignor Romero died on June 10 in Venezuela, he was 74 years old. Monsignor spent many years in the Diocese of Tucson as a visiting priest. Rest in peace, Monsignor Romero.
