This week's message from our Compassionate Choices group:
Do the Most Good, Cause the Least Harm
The vegan mission is not complicated. It asks us to look at our daily choices and measure them against a simple ethical standard: do the most good and cause the least harm. This does not mean perfection. No human life is free from impact. Food systems involve land, labor, water, transportation, and tradeoffs. But imperfection is not an excuse for indifference. The fact that we cannot prevent every harm does not release us from preventing the harms we can. Veganism begins with the recognition that animals are not objects. They are sentient beings with their own lives, relationships, fears, and will to live. Since we have alternatives to meat, dairy, eggs, wool, leather, and animal testing, choosing those alternatives becomes a practical form of compassion. It invites us to reduce violence where we have power, and to expand mercy where habit has made cruelty seem normal.
Affirmative Prayer: The loving Spirit of God within me guides my thoughts, words, and actions. Centered in Divine Wisdom, I make choices that bring peace, healing, and the highest good to All Beings.
