Sunday we begin a series in Genesis. The name itself implies we are going back to the beginning. There is great significance in beginnings. Companies love to remind us “we've been in business since ..., therefore you can depend on us!” That same significance holds true in the word of God. Genesis tells us how we got here, the failure that soon followed, and the beginning of God's solution to our failure in the call of Abraham. God first began humanity by creating a family. He saved humanity by sparing a family (Noah). Now he is going to bless humanity through yet another family. (Abraham and Sarah). I hope you will be as excited as we pastors are together realizing how God kept his promise to Abraham over all these years thereby knowing that on him and him alone we can depend!!

As a congregation, this Sunday is an opportunity for us to “break ground” on something new. These are the words that Bronwen used in our Leadership Team devotions recently to describe how we might approach the many new things that come with our decision to affiliate with the Rosedale Network of Churches—a new statement of theology (and practice), a new annual gathering (Multiply), and particularly relevant this week, a new relationship of accountability and edification as we install Mark Yoder as overseer of our congregation. Solomon counseled, “there is a time to tear down and a time to build” (Ecc. 3:3). We’ve got the required permits and tools enough for every pair of hands. “The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.” This was the sobering yet accurate observation made by Tertullian in the second century AD as he watched the gospel spread throughout the Roman world and beyond. Jesus left His disciples with a clear expectation of what was awaiting them: “If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.” So it was for the early church and so it has been for every Christian martyr down through the ages ever since. What of us today? Compared to believers in any other place and at any other time throughout history, we know levels of security, prosperity, and comfort that would leave them speechless. But has all this come at great cost? If Jesus returned today, would He recognize us as ones baptized in the Spirit… and in fire?

Firsts in scripture seem to get our attention, i.e. First man and woman created - First sin - First man called by God (Abraham) - First prophet (Moses) - Israel's First king (Saul). This Sunday it's the First sermon preached in the newly established church on the day of Pentecost. (Acts 2)
As would be expected, Peter lays the foundation for this new church when he declared to his audience, "repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins." (Acts 2:38) Paul later affirmed this when he said, "no one can lay any other foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ."
Join us Sunday as we go back to our foundation and appreciate again the new thing brought in by the Holy Spirit that took God's people into "A New Day."

This Sunday in our New Life series, we will spend time meditating on Jesus’ powerful conversation with Nicodemus and what it truly means to be “born again.” We will explore the beauty of being born of water and Spirit—not merely improved outwardly, but completely transformed through Christ into a new life. We will see how baptism points to death, cleansing, resurrection, and a completely new identity in Christ. As Sunday approaches, take time to consider: are you simply familiar with Jesus, or have you truly been made new by Him?

We continue the new life theme of our current series this Sunday in what I call "New Life - Family Analogy." The family is so basic it seems like all the rest of life somehow flows out of it! I suppose that's why they say, "as goes the family, so goes our culture." Think about it, what would be the glue that could possibly hold a culture together apart from family? And yes, why would it be otherwise when the all-knowing and gracious God who desires for us the very best, first created the individual family and then gave us the instruction manual (the Bible) to go along with it!
And, so significant to the life of our families are our mothers. This Sunday is Mother’s Day - God bless all of you who have brought so much of who God is into our families. It's no coincidence that the one He intended to be the most intimate with our children He made sure they had a heart to do so!

This Sunday, we begin our new series New Life by wrestling with a sobering truth from Ephesians 2:1–10—we are not merely struggling apart from Christ, but spiritually dead. Yet into that reality comes one of the most hope-filled turns in Scripture: “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy…” We will explore what it truly means to be made alive with Christ, not only for the future, but for how we live right now. This passage reminds us that salvation is entirely God’s work, yet it leads to a transformed life of purpose and obedience. As we prepare for Sunday, consider this: are you still holding onto an old identity, or are you walking in the new life God has already given you?

Spring is here and you can’t miss it! All throughout the northern hemisphere of planet earth, the natural world is daily revealing the evidence of new life—budding trees, blossoming flowers, busy and buzzing bees. But these natural testimonies and the new natural life they point to desperately pale in comparison to an infinitely greater springtime. Christ has risen and has become the firstfruits of God’s New Creation! We ourselves (together with every man, woman, and child alive today) are living in the spiritual springtime of God’s grace—all around are evidence of God’s reviving, restoring, and regenerating work in the world. As you go about your week, pause and consider this: how is my life showing the world that spring has sprung?

This week is Celebrate Recovery Sunday! Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered, 12-step recovery group that we have hosted at Franconia for 20 years! Every year we are given the opportunity to share with our congregation what God is doing through our CR ministry. This Sunday, we want to encourage our congregation to consider God's amazing grace in our lives, and the fact that He's not finished with us yet! Sunday morning we will hear a few testimonies from our CR group of God's grace and how the CR ministry has helped encourage each on their journey. Please be in prayer for those sharing- that the Lord will direct their hearts and minds as they prepare to give testimony to God's work in their lives.
