Pentecost Sunday in the Christian Church is the day on which the Spirit descended upon the apostles and their followers. It is considered the birthday of Christianity as many were baptized and became believers in Jesus Christ that day, establishing the body of the church.

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you" John 14:26

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" Acts 1:6-8

This Sunday we will be having our Confirmation service!

While Confirmation is seen in the Catholic Church, we at St. Peter's hold to the Reformed Anglican View, lets explain below what the differences are!

In Roman Catholic Church theology, confirmation is:

+one of the seven sacraments,
+believed to impart sacramental grace in a distinct way,
+often described as “completing” baptismal grace,
+and associated with a special sealing of the Holy Spirit.

Historically Reformed Anglicans tend to say:

+only baptism and the Lord’s Supper are dominical sacraments (instituted directly by Christ),
+confirmation is a valuable apostolic rite of the Church,
but not a sacrament in the same sense.

This comes from foundational Anglican documents like:

Thirty-Nine Articles
Book of Common Prayer

Article XXV of the Thirty-Nine Articles specifically says confirmation is not to be counted among the “Sacraments of the Gospel” in the same way as baptism and communion.

In plain text, this means, as an infant you are baptized and placed under the submission and authority of your parents, but when you choose to be confirmed you are saying, " I desire to be placed under church authority for discipline and leadership" and also by being confirmed they are saying, "my faith is my own, I desire to follow Jesus."

We are going to be celebrating 8 individuals and Bishop Marc Steele. We will have a reception afterwards
