Hey all, Pastor Jen here. Our Missouri Annual Conference is happening this weekend! This means I won't see you on Sunday (I'll be commissioned as a Provisional Elder) and will miss you greatly!

If you're new to United Methodism or simply don't understand what in the world an Annual Conference is, we United Methodists meet annually for a three-day gathering of over 1,200 clergy and lay members from around the state. The event focuses on worship, peer learning, and church governance.

There's a lot of worship, a significant amount of peer learning, and a little bit of work as we vote on routine matters for the conference (this year, there isn't anything surprising happening).

If you're interested (or just a Methodist nerd like me), did you know you can watch the sessions and the happenings of the Conference? Much of it is livestreamed and recorded. If interested, visit https://www.moacinfo.com/watch to stay in the know. You can also download a free copy of the workbook to view the schedule and to see what Brian Armstrong (our lay leader) and I will be up to for the next couple of days. I can't wait for us to bring back news from the Conference and any information that Lafayette Park can celebrate.

See you Monday!

Hi all, Pastor Jen here. If you've spent any time with me, you'll know that I am in love with our United Methodist identity and theology. United Methodists rely on something called "Social Principles" to inform and ground us collectively in a vision for how the Church is to navigate and serve the world beyond the walls of our churches.

This webinar offers an accessible introduction to the United Methodist Social Principles, including their theological roots, recent revisions, and practical relevance for congregations and leaders. Participants will explore how the Social Principles articulate the church’s moral witness, reflect a global Wesleyan perspective, and invite faithful engagement in the world–not as partisan statements, but as tools for discipleship.

Yesterday at Lafayette Park UMC, we celebrated something beautiful: what it means to belong. ❤️

As we gathered for Membership Sunday and welcomed new confirmands and new members into the life of our church family, we centered ourselves in Paul’s powerful words from Ephesians 2: “You are no longer strangers and aliens…you belong to God’s household.”

Yesterday’s sermon, “The Place Where God Lives,” reminded us that every human heart longs for home. We all long for a place where we can stop pretending, be fully known, and still be loved.

And the good news of the Gospel is this:
Christ tears down walls and brings people near. ✨

We reflected on the ancient temple walls that once separated people from one another and from the fullness of worship—and how Jesus breaks those barriers apart through grace, reconciliation, and love. Salvation is not simply about individual faith; it is about becoming part of a redeemed community.

Together.

As family.

As the household of God.

Don't forget, the Church is not merely a building we attend. It is the people we become.

Paul tells us that Christ is the cornerstone holding us together and that all of us—lifelong members, newcomers, children, doubters, saints, and seekers alike—are being built into “a place where God lives through the Spirit.”

What a beautiful vision for the Church. 🕊️

Not perfection.
Not performance.
Presence.

Grace here.
Forgiveness here.
Hope here.
Compassion here.
Welcome here.

And friends, yesterday truly felt like that kind of holy moment at Lafayette Park. As new members made covenant with this church family, we were reminded that belonging still matters. Community still matters. And God is still building something beautiful among us.

Thanks be to God for every story, every heart, and every person who now calls Lafayette Park UMC home. ❤️

Update: We will actually host two membership/confirmation Sundays. A few of the folks slated for this Sunday are not able to attend so we will plan to welcome them on June 14. Come to both services and celebrate all the new life that is shining from this church - this family of God!

Do not miss this Sunday!! This week, we welcome new members and new confirmands to the Lafayette Park family, and it's going to be quite the celebration. We'll have a good old-fashioned Methodist potluck to follow to continue the celebration after worship.

Pastor Jen will lead worship and preach on "The Place Where God Lives." We'll spend some time in Ephesians where the Church is called the "household of God." Why do we call LP a family? Because we are!

If you can't make it in person, join us online on Facebook. We stream live every Sunday.

This past Sunday at Lafayette Park UMC, we celebrated Pentecost Sunday and concluded our Salvation Stories sermon series with a powerful reminder that sat at the very center of the Gospel:

🔥 God is for us. 🔥

We gathered around the story of wind and fire, fear and courage, ordinary people suddenly filled with the Holy Spirit and transformed into witnesses of grace. The disciples who once hid behind locked doors became the very people through whom God would change the world. And that same Spirit is still moving today.

We reflected on the beauty of Pentecost as a new “Sinai moment.” At Mount Sinai, God formed a people through the Law. At Pentecost, God formed a people through the Spirit. This time, though, the Spirit did not rest on one prophet or one mountain—it rested on everyone gathered there. Men and women. Young and old. The uncertain and afraid. Ordinary people just like us. ❤️

One of the most moving truths from yesterday’s message was this:
God speaks to people in the language they understand.

At Pentecost, the miracle was not that everyone suddenly became the same. The miracle was that every person heard the good news in their own language. God did not erase difference—God redeemed it.

In a world so often divided by fear, suspicion, and hostility, Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit still creates communion where the world creates division. The Spirit still builds bridges. The Spirit still softens hearts. The Spirit still calls us toward one another in grace and love.

And perhaps the most important reminder of all:
You belong to God before you have everything figured out.

Nicodemus belonged before he understood.
The Samaritan woman belonged before society accepted her.
Paul belonged before his life changed.
And you belong too.

Friends, the Spirit is still breathing life into weary hearts.
Still creating courage.
Still transforming lives.
Still whispering this truth into the world:

✨ “My love, I am for you.” ✨

Thanks be to God. ❤️
