Last summer we were able to help the Iowa Dept of Health & Human Services pilot a summer feeding program for kids. After much research & refinement of that process, they were able to come up with an even better solution this summer...introducing the SUN Bucks Program!

Starting in early June 2026, eligible Iowa school-age children will receive $120 in grocery benefits per child to support healthy eating during the summer break.

Families can qualify by automatic eligibility or through an application that will be available in EARLY JUNE.

Automatically eligible kids include those who were in grades K–12 during the 2025–2026 school year, and their school took part in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), OR are 6-16 years old between July 1, 2025 -- August 14, 2026 and meet at least one of the following:

•Their household received SNAP or FIP
•Their household received Medicaid at or below 185% of the federal poverty level
•They are in foster care
•They were approved for Free or Reduced-Price School Meals (through an application with their school)

As millions of Americans will gather in thousands of local prayer gatherings to pray into this year's theme (Glorify God Among the Nations) we invite those of you in the Spencer area to participate in "National Day of Prayer" before you go to work on Thursday...the gathering this year is special because it's the first time we've been asked to host a gathering - on our nation’s 250th anniversary - and the National Day of Prayer celebrates 75 years of prayer for America

It’s a beautiful (and busy) day here at The Outreach, but we just HAD to share this great shot from our neighbors across the parking lot…it’s not every day you see a full rainbow, especially a full double rainbow. Plus the bonus that it appeared right above our building.

We’re told that the students voted ahead of time to decide which organization they wanted to support during Lent. We thank God for putting it on their hearts to select our food efforts and the generosity of each student/family throughout “Change Wars” these past several weeks!

Our Sacred Heart Catholic School students made a big impact this Lent!

During “Change Wars,” classes competed to raise money—coins added to their total, while dollars from other classes brought it down. The 5th graders won the competition!

Even better, $2,400 was raised to support our community. Half will go to Sacred Heart Parish and half to The Outreach - Spencer.

We’re having our own little Easter Dinner down here and you’re all invited! Come in between 5-6:30pm for ham, green bean casserole, potatoes/gravy, and be sure to stop at this beautiful dessert table

’Twas the night before our anniversary - the tables all set.
God’s faithfulness and stories we won’t soon forget.

The fruit piled high in a cross-shaped display.
A sweet little salad before the big day.

The berries were gleaming, the pineapple bright.
The grapes huddled close like our community tight.

With preparations all done, but no chimney in sight.
Just friends coming hungry for this fruit and “The Light”

We're here tonight if you're all dug out from the storm...and please continue to spread the word about our big party on Tuesday from 5-7pm where we'll celebrate 365 days of God's goodness to this ministry!

We are excited to bring you Breakfast for Dinner (brinner) this evening, and we'll just say "it takes a village to make pancakes" down here :) so we encourage you to join us at 5pm for breakfast

Thanks to the generosity of "Grace United Methodist Church" in Spencer, we were able to purchase enough food to provide a little something to the community for the upcoming holiday!

This was in addition to their support of the Thanksgiving meal last month where we worked with "Hope Church, Spencer" in conjunction with an awesome turkey donation from the local office of "Midwestern Mechanical"

In God's providence; these 3 great organizations worked entirely separate of each other to make some amazing things happen this season and we wanted to point out this great example of the various ways you can involve yourself in our work as we head into 2026
