We are excited to share that Hilary Azrael will be joining our Congregation Beth El community and our preschool community as our new Director of Early Childhood Education and Director of our Thelma K. Reisman Preschool, beginning officially on June 22nd.

Hilary brings warmth, experience, and a deep commitment to early childhood education. We are confident that her leadership, care for children and families, and thoughtful approach will be a wonderful addition to our school.

In Hilary’s own words:

"I am so excited to be joining the Beth El Preschool family! I have been an early childhood educator and director in Baltimore, Maryland for over 20 years, and throughout my career have been passionate about helping children feel safe, joyful, confident, and excited to learn each day. I look forward to working closely with both families and teachers and to supporting the warm, nurturing environment that already makes the Beth El Preschool such a special place."

In the coming weeks, Hilary will be spending time getting to know our teachers, children, and families. We know you will join us in giving her a warm welcome as she steps into this important role. We are grateful for your continued partnership and look forward to this exciting next chapter for our preschool.

On Friday, March 13, our teachers and several of our preschool classes had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Shmidt Chapman, author of Let There Be Play: Bringing the Bible to Life with Young Children. During his visit, he spent the morning with the children bringing the story of Passover to life in a magical, sensory-rich way, guiding them through a meaningful reenactment. He also celebrated Shabbat with the children through song and plenty of movement. It was a joyful and engaging experience that truly captured the spirit of learning through play.
Later in the day, our teachers had the opportunity to participate in a dedicated session with Jonathan. They thoroughly enjoyed learning from him and exploring how to incorporate his storytelling techniques into their own classrooms. Just as the children had the chance to play and imagine, the teachers also stepped into the experience—acting, engaging, and learning through play in the same way Jonathan models with young children. It was an inspiring and energizing experience that left everyone excited to bring new ideas and creativity into their teaching.
