Twelve years ago today, Facebook reminded me of something very special…

Clarence and I hosted a marriage conference called “Marriage: Cultivate Your Garden” at the South Orange Performing Arts Center. From 9 AM to 3 PM, couples came—hungry, hopeful, and expectant. And God met us there.

So many of you were in the room. You invested in your marriage, you leaned in, you listened, you prayed—and God began to renew, restore, and transform hearts right before our eyes.

Even now, years later, couples still talk about that day… and that says everything. It wasn’t just an event—it was a moment of divine cultivation. Seeds were planted. Some were watered. And many began to grow in ways that are still bearing fruit today.

Marriage is a garden. It requires care, attention, patience, and most of all—God’s guidance. And when we invite Him in, He does what only He can do.

To everyone who attended—thank you. You were part of something sacred.
And to those still tending your garden… keep going. God is still working.

Jude a servant of God and writer of the chapter, begins his letter with a standard greeting, but the content of his blessing is rich and significant. He wishes his readers mercy, peace, and love.
Mercy in marriage, both partners need to extend mercy to each other. Peace in marriage is not just about avoiding arguments but about cultivating a deep, harmonious relationship. Love in marriage is not just a feeling but a choice to act in the best interest of your spouse.
Let us Pray - Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of marriage and the love You have placed in our hearts. Just as Jude 1:2 says, “Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.” I ask that You pour these blessings into our relationship. When challenges arise, let mercy guide our words, peace calm our hearts, and love strengthen our bond.
Help us to reflect Your grace in the way we treat each other, choosing patience over frustration and kindness over pride. May our marriage be a testament to Your unending love, growing stronger each day through faith and trust in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us, which is a powerful foundation for marriage. In marriage, this means loving selflessly, forgiving freely, and choosing each other daily—not based on feelings, but on a commitment to reflect Christ’s sacrificial and enduring love.

In what ways are you actively choosing to love your spouse as Christ loves you?
Are there areas in your marriage where selfishness or pride is preventing you from truly loving as Christ commanded?
How can you demonstrate sacrificial love today, even when it’s not easy?
Love is not just an emotion but an action—what steps can you take to strengthen your love in a way that honors God and your spouse?
Marriage thrives when both partners embrace this command, making love not just a reaction, but a daily, intentional commitment. Will you choose to love like Christ today?

Imagine a spouse who, instead of reacting in anger when a mistake is made by the other spouse, chooses to respond with patience and understanding. This act of righteousness not only fosters a loving and peaceful home but also reflects the grace and mercy of God.

Let Love Win ❤️
Do you ever feel small frustrations piling up, making your words sharp and your heart distant from your spouse? It’s easy to hold onto pride, but love calls us to something greater.
Instead of letting the tension grow, take a step toward each other. Apologize for the harshness, the distance, the unkind words. You might be surprised at the response.
In that moment, love wins over anger. The problems won’t magically disappear, but choosing grace, patience, and God’s love will make all the difference. 💕

You must not forget that love never fails because marriage will face trials, misunderstandings, and seasons of difficulty, but true love—rooted in God—has the power to endure and overcome. When you hold onto this truth, you choose commitment over convenience, grace over resentment, and faith over fear, allowing your marriage to reflect the unbreakable, unfailing love of Christ.

In marriage, your spouse is your closest neighbor, deserving of the same love, patience, and kindness you desire for yourself. True love is not just about words or feelings but about daily acts of service, sacrifice, and understanding. When you choose to love your spouse selflessly, as Christ calls you to, your marriage becomes a reflection of His grace and unity.

1 John 4:18 teaches that perfect love drives out fear, which is vital for marriage because fear—whether of failure, rejection, or past wounds—can create distance between spouses. When a couple chooses to love each other with God’s unconditional love, they build a relationship based on trust, security, and grace, freeing them from the fear that hinders true intimacy.
