Hi! My name is Lucas Brasil, and I am a senior studying Finance and Accounting at Seton Hall University. During my time at Seton Hall, I have been blessed to serve in leadership roles, including President and now Senior Advisor of ALPFA Seton Hall, Head of DEI for the Buccino Leadership Institute, and student worker at the Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute.

As a first-generation student from Long Branch, New Jersey, with family roots in Brazil, my journey at Seton Hall has been shaped by faith, family, and community. I chose Seton Hall because I wanted to challenge myself academically, professionally, and personally. When I first arrived, I was excited for the opportunity ahead, but unsure of how I would find my place. Over time, Seton Hall became a place where I learned how to lead, serve, and grow into the person God was calling me to become.

Through ALPFA, Buccino, the Latino Institute, internships, and campus involvement, I learned that leadership is not just about holding a title. One of the most meaningful moments of my journey was helping lead the ALPFA Northeast Regional Student Symposium, which brought together 500+ students and professionals for networking, career development, and community. My summer 2025 internship with EY-Parthenon also pushed me outside my comfort zone and taught me the importance of preparation, resilience, and believing that I belong in professional spaces I once thought were out of reach. These experiences transformed how I see leadership: creating opportunities for others and building spaces where students feel seen and supported.

After graduation, I will be joining EY-Parthenon in New York City in the Strategy and Transactions practice. Long term, I hope to use my career to open doors for others, especially first-generation and Latino students.

To anyone beginning their Seton Hall journey, I would say: get involved, ask questions, and do not be afraid to step into rooms where you feel uncomfortable. Growth often happens when you trust God, bet on yourself, and allow others to walk with you. I am grateful for the people, mentors, and communities at Seton Hall who have shaped my journey.

🚌Today, our students and faculty had the opportunity to take a day trip to the Mother Seton Shrine in Emmitsburg, MD!🚌

☀️What a beautiful day we were blessed with as we had the opportunity to celebrate Mass at the foot of Mother Seton’s tomb and learn more about our patroness!

Mother Seton, pray for us!

Hi! My name is Joy Gerges, and I am a senior studying Mathematics. I am involved as a Peer Advisor and Orientation Leader, where I support first-year students as they transition to college and navigate campus life. I also occasionally help out with the Student Activities Board, assisting with events that bring students together across campus.

Growing up in a small town where everyone knows each other, I’ve always really appreciated a strong sense of community. When I first visited Seton Hall, that feeling stood out right away and played a big role in my decision to attend. I came in shy and quiet, unsure how I’d find my place, especially as a commuter balancing school with an off-campus job. I didn’t think I’d feel fully connected, but over time, getting involved and stepping outside my comfort zone helped me build real relationships and find a community that feels like home.

Being a PA and OL has had a big impact on me. I’ve been able to mentor students, lead groups, and create a welcoming environment, which has helped me grow into a more confident and intentional leader. These roles pushed me out of my comfort zone and showed me the impact I can have. Hearing students say I’ve helped them is one of the most rewarding parts. My faith has also been a big part of my journey. As a Christian, it guides how I treat others, lead, and stay grounded, reminding me to lead with purpose and be someone others can count on.

After graduation, I plan to attend graduate school and become a math teacher. I’ve always known I wanted to teach, and being a PA and OL has only reinforced that. These experiences showed me how much I enjoy working with students, and I’m passionate about helping them not just understand math, but also feel confident in the classroom.

To anyone starting their journey, it’s okay if you don’t have everything figured out right away. It’s okay to not know what’s next. Take it one day at a time and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Growth happens in those moments.
Grateful for everything SHU has given me and proud to be part of this community!
