JUNE 14 | INSIDE OUT: CAIN AND ABEL (sermon)

This week, we turned back to Genesis 4. The story of Cain and Abel is often taught to children as a cautionary tale of how jealousy and anger can get out of control, but Pastor Carolyn added another layer of the story to ponder. When we let our fear drive our lives, we often miss out on the relationship God wants to have with us.

This week, we started a new sermon series, where we're going back to the beginning to explore the layered meanings of the stories we know. We started out in Genesis 9 with Noah's Ark, where Pastor Carolyn taught us about an even deeper meaning to the ancient tale.

Most people have read the story of Noah’s ark to their children, at least until a percocious child asks why God would eliminate so many people and animals. The story taught to children is how God promises not to wipe out the earth again and puts a rainbow in the sky to affirm that promise. If we ponder the same question children ask, and face the discomfort, could there be more to learn about God and ourselves in this story?
