Slanesville Presbyterian Church

Slanesville Presbyterian Church SPC is very community minded and extremely family oriented, dedicated to public service. SPC is a small but dynamic congregation.

We're so small, we don't even have a telephone! (The number given is a congregation member's cell.) We are located just off Route 29 on Slanesville Pike, up the street from the Post Office, the Main Street Grill, and the Slanesville General Store. We have Sunday School at 9:45 on Sunday mornings, and worship services at 11 a.m. In months when there are five Sundays, the fifth is a hymn sing! Our Presbyterian Women & Men's group is active in good-deed-doing. Please feel free to join us any week!

Some new features will join us: the Consignment Table and the Home Movers Special.

At some point we will be ready with the Very Large Book Sale.

Wednesday's Lenten Lunch was a lively affair, with a homily by Don Judy of White Pines Bretheran Church about Jesus as the Door to Heaven.
The meal was the crowd-favorite Subway subs!

The Lenten study at 11am was a smaller assembly but still thought-provoking.

The series continues next Wednesday with a meal and homily provided by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Please let us know ahead of time if you have food allergies or dietary restrictions we should know, at 304-822-0742.

Yesterday's Lenten Lunch was well attended! The meal was Sloppy Joe's (choice of beef or chicken), cole slaw, chips and a variety of home-baked desserts. Preparation and service was provided by Slanesville Presbyterian Church and Romney Church of the Nazarene.
The homily was delivered by Rev. Scott Ingleton of the Capon Bridge Charge. His topic was Jesus's statement, "I am the Good Shepherd."

Next week's meal will be provided by White Pine Church - we understand they will be serving Subway subs! Their Pastor, Don Judy, will deliver the homily.

We hope to see you there!

Lenten Update:

If you read this week's edition of the Hampshire Review, you will see the synopsis of Pastor Sharmune's homily from last week's Lenten Lunch.

Yesterday (Wednesday) the Lenten Lunch was preceded by the first week of the Lenten study group. This week's lesson was about the events which immediately followed Christ's death on the cross. Next week the study will follow the devotional book (available in class.)

This week's Lenten Lunch was delicious sliders, Fritos, fruit cups, and chocolate or lemon desserts. It was prepared and served by Romney Presbyterian Church.
RPC's Pastor Rob delivered the homily, focusing on "I am the Truth, the Way and the Light."

The gathering was larger than last week's group. We're hoping to keep increasing in number - please join us next week!

Next week's meal will be sloppy Joes (choice of beef or chicken), cole slaw, chips and cupcakes [diabetic and gluten-free desserts available in limited amounts.]
PLEASE call 304-822-0742 if you have food allergies or dietary restrictions.

The only Lenten activity we know of for certain this week is the Stations of the Cross service at Our Lady Of Grace Catholic Church in Romney.

Have a great week!

Don't forget the Lenten Lunch at First United Methodist in Romney, Wednesday, February 25, at noon.

There is a Lenten study group meeting at 11am upstairs.

This week's lunch is prepared and served by Romney Presbyterian Church, featuring sliders, chips and dessert!

Join us to enjoy the fellowship and the homily shared during the luncheon.

You still have time to call 304-822-0742 today to let us know about any food allergies or dietary restrictions.

Between the snow which has begun to fall and the number of members who are sick, the Session feels canceling worship services today is prudent.

Stay out of the falling weather, and stay (or get) well!

02/20/2026

There are not many items on today's Lenten Update.

The only activity or service for Friday, February 20 we're aware of is the Stations of the Cross at 6pm at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Even if you are not a Catholic, you will surely be moved by this observance.
OLOG will do this every Friday during Lent.

There are most likely other churches (Catholic and Episcopal) who observe the Stations, and we will try to get specific times and dates for future Updates.
