This little town was once a bustling industrial center with a cooper (barrel maker), a lime kiln, 3 grist mills, a mechanic, stores, a church, and more. During the French Indian War, Fort Thomas Parker was nearby. Much of the land was owned by George Washington's personal physician and friend, Dr. James Craik.
Ms. Cornelia McDonald (a.k.a. Terry Lynn) will show you through the old inn. She can show you the bar room, the room where Union soldiers busted the lock, as well as the "haunted room" where the drummer died. If you are careful as you cross the boardwalk (it can be slick), you can see the mason's mark and the year 1812 in the stones of the root cellar. Adventurous individuals can visit the 2-holer, which is listed in the National Historic Register (really.)
Volunteer guides will lead people on hikes of Ice Mountain/ North River Mills every half hour.
If you ask the bald guy, we can likely do a wagon ride through town.
Old-time music folks will be playing on the porch.
The ladies of the North River Mills church provide refreshments.
Come and relax with us and bask in the place's peaceful, welcoming spirit. We hope to see you there.
