“Resurrection Commitment” - Acts 2:1-13, 42-47
“Are you all in?” “Give 110%!” “Leave it all on the field!” Phrases like this have been commonly employed as challenges to participants in a variety of settings to stir passion and commitment to a cause or goal in front of them. Even in faith life, such phraseology has a parallel as Jesus Himself called His disciples – and us – to “deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him.” Jesus final post-resurrection encounter with the disciples happens not through His physical presence but through His promised presence in the form of the Holy Spirit. The disciples’ “all-in” moment had arrived when the Holy Spirit was poured out. The disciples were called to step to the plate and “make it happen” through the Holy Spirit’s power. And even though they didn’t fully understand in that moment what “all-in” would mean, they had the ongoing presence and power of the Spirit that would propel them forward. While we don’t know what tomorrow holds, we can be “all-in” because the Spirit lives in us and works through us to see abundant life unfold right before our very eyes!

“Resurrection Expectation” – Acts 1:1-11
There are many things we “look forward to” and “hope for” in this life. Expectation is a unique emotion of the human experience, constantly engaging the past, present, future of our lives, and then translating that into emotions, actions, and convictions. For the disciples journeying with Jesus post-resurrection, once again we find a whirlwind of experiences – grasping the fact that Jesus is alive, hearing anew promises of the Holy Spirit, being told to hang tight for the unexpected, and then, in a brief moment, watching Jesus be lifted into Heaven… and then gone. Wow. Hopes and expectations – for the disciples and us – can sometimes feel overwhelming. Yet, God’s heart is that amidst our hopes and expectations we discover the abundant life that comes from trusting Him and staying focused on what’s most important. Let’s come expectant this week to hear from God and for His Spirit to stir our expectations of what He can and will do in and through us!

“Resurrection Revelation” – Luke 24:13-19a, 27-35
“Any questions?” This phrase is often used by teachers, presenters, facilitators, and/or any other type of lead person to wrap up a session of information and open the door for inquiries, searching, pondering, or clarity. When Jesus appeared on Resurrection afternoon to the two men on the road to Emmaus, there was no need for Jesus to ask: “Any questions?” Their minds and conversation were still trying to grapple with all that had gone on. Yet Jesus, anonymous to them at the moment, didn’t chastise or ridicule their confusion but rather invited them to share their confusion and ask their hard questions. Jesus, filled with abundant life for them, then took the Word and spoke into their confusion. And when supper time arrived, broke bread and opened their eyes to the life that stood among them all afternoon. Never minimize hard questions or confusion. Come to Jesus, ask your questions, and find that His Word – and His Spirit – speaks into our wrestling’s to usher in life and to open our eyes to all that He is doing along the pathway to eternity with Him. What comfort! What life abundant is ours in Christ!
