Did you know we have a Marian Shrine in our diocese?

In September of 1987, we welcomed Bishop Alberto Amaral of Fatima, Portugal, to South Dakota to bless and dedicate the Fatima Family Shrine in Alexandria.

Next week will be the 36th anniversary of the dedication of the shrine. It is located next to St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church across the street from Our Lady of Mercy and St. Joseph Carmelite monastery. Inside the church, there is a replica of the Fatima statue of Mary that pilgrims can find at the shrine.

The shrine contains rocks and soil from the spot where Mary appeared to Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia. Consider making a pilgrimage to see the shrine!
