Join us this Saturday at 5 p.m. for the Extended Vigil of Pentecost at the Cathedral.

Pentecost is not simply the “birthday of the Church.” As the Catechism teaches, the Church was born from the pierced Heart of Christ on the Cross. On Pentecost, the Church was manifested to the world through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Because Pentecost brought together people of many languages and nations, it is fitting that we celebrate this beautiful Vigil bilingually. This Saturday, instead of the usual 4 p.m. English Mass and 6 p.m. Spanish Mass, we will have one bilingual Extended Vigil of Pentecost at 5 p.m.

Come, Holy Spirit!

Solemnity of the Ascension

This Thursday is the traditional day to celebrate the Ascension, forty days after Easter. In our Diocese, as well as in South Dakota, the celebration is transferred to Sunday. However, in Nebraska, the Ascension is still celebrated tomorrow, Thursday, as a holy day of obligation.

So, if you live in Nebraska, you are required to attend Mass for the Ascension, even if you usually attend Mass in Iowa or South Dakota. You may fulfill that obligation by attending Mass tonight or tomorrow.

At the Cathedral, you may attend:

Tonight: 5:30 p.m. Spanish Mass
Tomorrow: 12:00 p.m. English Mass
Tomorrow: 5:30 p.m. Spanish Mass

If you live in Iowa or South Dakota, the Ascension will be celebrated this Sunday.
