Queen Anne United Methodist Church/The Well

Queen Anne United Methodist Church/The Well We believe that a more just and compassionate society can be built, in part, through conversation in community over time. Our podcast is The Well QA.

Our Sunday worship services are at 10:30 AM in person and via ZOOM. Everyone in worship needs to be masked properly. Groups using our facility have the choice of going mask optional. A local congregation offering "intimate space, big conversation" by bringing some of the world's most interesting speakers, teachers, Bible scholars, scientists, authors, dreamers, and activists. Our goal is four fold

:
1. Offer the wider community a safe and generous place to dialogue about issues that confront us locally, state-wide, nationally, and globally.
2. Function as a Center for Spiritual Formation for Christians who yearn for deep spirituality and a challenging faith.
3.Offer clergy a place to learn, pray, and be revitalized.
4. Grow a new monastic community and offer ongoing small worship and prayer services.

On this Memorial Day we pray for the end of all wars and pay homage to all who have lost their lives fighting them.

In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae
“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.”

John McCrae was a Canadian wartime physician, who wrote this in 1915 after the death of a friend. The battle was at Ypres Salient in Belgium.

May no more die.

Grateful for the leadership of the Rev. Lisa Ishihara, who led worship today at Queen Anne UMC. She brought a holy word from John 14 on the role of the Spirit who never leaves us in isolation. God is always with us.

Today we finished three days of Together We Sing: Songs of Praise, Lament, and Protest. Led by Mark Miller and Joe Lee, this was a journey through song. We are deeply grateful for their presence and gifts, and we are deeply humbled by all who came to share their voices. A word of love for Joe Lee, who became ill and had to miss the last day (today). Joe, we were deeply blessed by you. *This program is made possible through a Vital Worship, Vital Preaching Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Grand Rapids, Michigan, with funds provided by Lilly Endowment Inc.
