University Unitarian Church

University Unitarian Church University Unitarian Church is a Welcoming Congregation, acting for love, justice and compassion.

Our Vision Statements:

We will create a more connected multi-generational community where all individuals welcome, value, and support one another and contribute to the common good. We will risk leaving the safety of known ways in order to open ourselves to experiences of awe and mystery and deepen our sense of gratitude and awareness that we are connected to creation. We will be responsible stew

ards of the gifts we hold in trust, endeavoring to leave a generous and sustainable legacy for those who come after us. We will vocally and actively oppose injustice and stand in prophetic judgment of all that would diminish the equality and dignity of human beings or harm the web of life. We seek partnership with those who share our goals and creative dialogue with those who challenge us in our search for larger truths.

UUC Endorsing No Hate in Washington State

University Unitarian Church is endorsing the No Hate in Washington State campaign against two anti-trans and anti-privacy initiatives that will appear on this November's ballot. In publicly taking this position, we join the Church Council of Greater Seattle, other unitarian churches in Washington, Congregation Beth Shalom (our next-door neighbor), and several organizations with whom we partner, including Common Power, Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network, and 350 Seattle...

Phishing and Smishing*
A Reminder About Phishing Emails and Text Message Scams

Recently some members of the church received suspicious emails claiming to be from Rev. Jeremiah. These messages are efforts by scammers to trick people into taking action that was not in their interest, simply by leveraging the members’ inherent trust in their church. These and related kinds of social engineering scams have become more and more common around the world and lead to billions of dollars in losses to individuals and corporations every year...

UUC's New Path to Membership

Last fall, our new Member Engagement Team met for the first time to create a list of priorities for the coming year. One of the projects that emerged was a rethinking of our Path to Membership and the steps that we ask prospective members to engage with before signing the book. This work was inspired by other local UU congregations who have similarly reimagined their Path to Membership with a focus on helping prospective members deepen their involvement in the community prior to joining. The UU churches doing this work have experienced a significant increase in new members joining, and, perhaps most significantly, a membership base that is more involved in the congregation. These churches have found that over several years, the congregants who engaged in this new Path to Membership were more likely to stay in the community, and more likely to eventually take on leadership roles...

A powerful work of art can help us remember what must not be forgotten—and ask what repair requires of us now.

At King’s Chapel in Boston, “Unbound,” a 14-foot bronze and granite sculpture by artist Harmonia Rosales, honors the 219 people enslaved by past members and ministers of the congregation. The memorial is part of King’s Chapel’s broader effort to confront its history, including ongoing work centered on reparative justice and reconciliation.
