"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

We are called to support one another and to guide one another, keeping one another from stumbling into sin. And when we come together as Christians, we know that Christ is in our midst.

"Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me."

Today Jesus teaches us not to conform ourselves to this age, but to offer our lives for the sake of others. He also promises that "he will repay all according to his conduct".

We invite you to come and meet the Lord at our usual Mass times: 7am, 8:30am, and 10:30am in English and 12:30 pm in Spanish.

Through Peter and the apostles, Jesus has established a Church. It is as a Church family, clergy and laity, that we come together and worship God.

"For my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples."

Today a Canaanite woman approaches Jesus and asks him to heal her daughter. We learn that Christ's mission is to everyone. He has come to fulfill what the Lord said through Isaiah: "for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples".

"Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus."

After last week's miracle of feeding the five thousand, today the disciples see Jesus come towards them, walking upon the water. In our moments of fear and need, Jesus comes to us. Like Peter, in our eagerness, let us race to him!

Feast of Saint Dominic

This anonymous piece was created recently by one of our parishioners in honor of the Feast of Saint Dominic. Notice how it is created in the style of the portraits on our ceiling.

By tradition, his mother had a dream of a dog carrying a flaming torch. Saint Dominic would later set the world on fire with his preaching. This dream also led to a pun for the name of his followers, the Dominicans (Dominicanus), which in Latin also means the "Hounds of the Lord".

We thank Sister Barbara, Sister Noella, and all of the Dominicans who have served Holy Cross and the community of Santa Cruz.

“Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.”

This morning, we hear how Jesus fed over five thousand people with a mere five loaves and two fish. Jesus continues to feed us today through the Eucharist: as we will chant together, "the hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs".
