Dear River City Christian Family,

Pastor Ted Smith, who served for over 30 years as our Senior Pastor when we were known as First Covenant Church, went home to be with His Savior on Saturday. Pastor Ted was the father of Pastor Jesse as well as Todd Smith and Cheri Coulter. He was married to his wife Glenda for 63 years.

A man of God who was passionate about sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Pastor Ted leaves an incredible legacy of leading our congregation to build the facilities at our current location and touching countless lives through his preaching, teaching, counseling, and other various forms of ministry.

Please join us in praising God for Pastor Ted’s impact on the kingdom of God and in praying for comfort for the Smith family.

“This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

“It all started with a picture.” On Lina this week, we're featuring Cheryl Lynn Alexander-Bermudez's piece (originally published in The Evangelical Covenant Church's Covenant Companion) about Covenant women who stood in solidarity. Alexander-Bermudez writes about Florence Towne, the woman whose message at North Park Theological Seminary’s chapel in 1940 inspired Douglas and Carolyn Cedarleaf—and their children—to engage in a lifelong struggle for racial righteousness in Chicago. Pictured below is a march down Throop Street, featuring Florence Towne (front, left) and Douglas Cedarleaf (front, right), and the congregation of Erie Chapel Presbyterian Church. Yesterday, NPTS gathered for our first Community Worship service of the semester! Echoing NPU's 2026-2027 call to be "rooted" in God's love, Dean Mary Miller opened with a word from Ephesians 3:14-21, meditating on the apostle Paul's rich prayer of blessing. "To know the ocean you don't scoop out a teaspoon, you jump in and swim. And you understand God's love by letting it take over you," she preached. Amen! Join us Tuesday, September 1 at 4:30pm CT in person or online for our next service.
