We are honored to have Tom Peterson as another speaker for the pillar of Community at our upcoming ACTS National Conference. Born in Chicago, raised in Indianapolis, Tom’s faith journey began with the Sisters of St. Joseph through eighth grade, followed by a Jesuit High School, and then college at St Mary’s University. Father Billy Morell, OMI, claimed that the Oblates of Mary Immaculate were in the proper order of accession for Tom’s spiritual formation.
October of 1992 marked a huge step in that formation, as Tom made his first ACTS Retreat at Cordi-Marian retreat center in San Antonio. Larry Lopez was Tom’s roommate, and that relationship blossomed into a number of ACTS retreats, with Tom serving in almost all capacities, ultimately resulting in being hired as the first employee of ACTS Missions in 2000.
ACTS Missions was the culmination of Tom’s working career, as the one-person office at the Oblate School of Theology eventually grew into the international organization that it is today. Thanks are in order for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, as they have been a generous supporter and mentor of ACTSM from 2000 to today’s international office headed by Deb Alaniz.
