A message from Fr. Peter Chineke:

This week I leave for studies and will not be back until briefly in December, and permanently in May.

While it is in the nature of my vocation both as a missionary and a priest to be sent off to a different assignment or ministry every now and then, either temporarily or for a longer period of time, I have never enjoyed having to leave wonderful communities like our own Parish Church of St Jude even for the shortest period of time. So, it’s hard to have to leave this week for the next several months.

However, knowing what a fantastic community we’ve grown together to become, how strong, resilient, God-loving and understanding we are, I’m confident in our ability to embrace the changes both in priests and Mass times with optimistic disposition and goodwill.

I’m so proud of every one of us and our beautiful families, youth group, Knights of Columbus, Parish Deacons and Parish Staff, our Parish council and finance council, our various committees, and our women’s group.

Out of sight isn’t going to be out of mind. I’ll keep you all in my prayers and as always, hope that you pray for me. I’ll see you again soon!

Love, Peace and Blessings to our parishioners and friends!

Fr Peter

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Augustine of Hippo, one of the great saints and teachers of the Church.

Augustine spent much of his early life searching for meaning, truth, and fulfillment in all the wrong places. Yet God never stopped pursuing him. Through the prayers of his mother, St. Monica, and the grace of God, Augustine experienced a profound conversion and eventually became a bishop, theologian, and Doctor of the Church.

His life reminds us that no one is ever too far from God’s grace. Our hearts can search for happiness in so many places, but ultimately, they are made for God.

“Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

May St. Augustine pray for all of us, that we may have the courage to seek God wholeheartedly, trust in His mercy, and never stop allowing Him to transform our lives.

St. Augustine, pray for us!

Today, August 27th, we celebrate the Feast of St. Monica!

St. Monica’s life is a powerful testament to persistent prayer and unwavering faith, particularly for those we love.

For an astonishing THIRTY years, she poured out her heart in prayer for her son, Augustine, who was living a life far from God, marked by immorality and intellectual wandering.

Her journey was one of deep spiritual struggle, filled with tears and fervent petitions, as she tirelessly sought his conversion. She even followed him to Milan, remaining close to guide him towards the truth.

The culmination of her decades of prayer came in the year 386, when she finally witnessed St. Ambrose baptize her beloved son.

St. Augustine himself, in his Confessions, later acknowledged her profound influence, asking readers to remember his mother in their prayers.

St. Monica's story offers immense hope and encouragement to all who pray for a loved one who has strayed from faith. She reminds us that God hears our prayers, and that even in the longest and most challenging seasons, our persistence can bear fruit.

May we be inspired by St. Monica's example to never give up on those we pray for.

St. Monica, pray for us!

Our Acutis Youth Group Check In!:

Last night, the Acutis Youth Group celebrated our Parish Day of Prayer with time spent in Eucharistic Adoration.

In the stillness, we had the opportunity to slow down, quiet our minds, and remember what truly matters in life—our Lord.

After Adoration, we enjoyed some time of fellowship, laughter, and catching up with one another. What a blessing to have time both to grow closer to Jesus and to one another! 💙

Please keep our teens in your prayers as they adjust to new classes, new teachers, and new schedules. May God give them patience, confidence, kind friends, and the courage to let their faith guide them through this new school year. 🙏

Tonight, our parish family gathered for a beautiful Parish Day of Prayer with the Acutis Youth Group. We spent time in Adoration, prayer, and reflection, taking a step away from the busy tone of everyday life to simply be in the presence of Jesus.

During our reflection, we heard the story of the Prodigal Son from the Gospel of Luke. It was a beautiful reminder of the Father’s unconditional love and mercy, and that no matter how far we may wander, God is always ready to welcome us home.

What a fitting Gospel to reflect upon while sitting in the presence of Christ.

A special thank you to our Acutis Youth Group for helping lead this special evening and to everyone who came and joined us in prayer.

May the Lord continue to bless our parish, our families, and especially our young people. May the grace of tonight remain with us and draw each of us ever closer to the heart of our Heavenly Father.

“For this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.”

This past weekend, we had the joy of welcoming two wonderful young women, Mckenzi and Ladapa, fully into the Catholic Church!

After a journey of learning, prayer, and growing in faith, they received the Sacraments of Initiation and were welcomed into full communion with the Church.

We are so grateful to have witnessed this beautiful moment and are excited to continue walking alongside them as they grow in their relationship with Christ and His Church.

Please join us in congratulating them and praying for them as they begin this new chapter of their faith journey. May God bless them abundantly and may they always know that they have a home here in our parish family!

Welcome home! ❤️
