Headwaters Christian Youth

Headwaters Christian Youth Teaching teens the Word and helping them to live it out. Today, many conclude that life has no meaning. Still others respond to a message of hope. Who cares?

Our young people today are caught in a cross-fire of ideas, one strong voice says war is wrong, another demands that they be patriotic.Teenage friends tell them to try drugs, parents and teachers plead with them not to try. Certain voices insist, any sex is moral if it does not hurt the people involved, other voices strongly support morality based on the Holy Scriptures. Our young people are force

d to make decisions at an age when they are most susceptible to suggestion good and bad. Others drift without purpose, never thinking it all through. Who reaches out to young people with hope and a reason for living? HEADWATERS CHRISTIAN YOUTH is an organization devoted to communicating with high school and junior high school young people. It is an organization equipped with a program for youth, enabling them to develop in all four dimensions of life, physical, mental, social, and spiritual. Involved teenagers in the program find it useful in finding themselves, resulting in a life of purpose instead of a continual search which may result in dropping out of high school, turning to alcohol, becoming involved in drugs, etc. HEADWATERS CHRISTIAN YOUTH is a mission effort in respect to unchurched teens in an area in which no mission effort is being put forth. Our programs will help those teens who never enter a church to find a life in Christ which holds real exercise and share their own faith with their unsaved friends. The problems and difficulties of teenagers today often leave parents, teachers, and other concerned individuals in a state of bewilderment. It is true that the process of growing up into a mature Christian and conscientious citizen is harder today than ever before. But the staff of HEADWATERS CHRISTIAN YOUTH is dedicated to helping teens through this difficult time and leading them on to a life which will honor and glorify God. All good things are not cheap. However, if concerned people of this area will band together in this effort, we can provide a worthwhile youth program for all the teens of the Headwaters area.

Well I had been thinking of things to do with HCY through the Summer. However one of the ideas was not indoor swimming pool. Last Monday I walked in from the weekend to quite the surprise. Pray for us as we sort everything out. Thankfully not much was ruined.

Our Spring Plant Letter is going out but I thought I would post it here for those of you not on our mailing list. This one shares a bit of a recent story from one of our teens who wanted you all to hear about their recent experience.

HCY Spring Plant Letter
This spring, I was sent a video late one night that brought me to tears—tears of joy I won’t soon forget.
In the video, one of our HCY students stood in a pool in Belize, choosing to be baptized.
Many of you who receive this letter already know what HCY is about. You’ve also likely heard that over the past few years, we’ve faced real financial challenges. I want to be direct with you: right now, HCY is at a critical point. We need more donors and more consistent support to continue the ministry God has called us to. But this is why it matters.
Recently, a group of our students traveled to Belize on a school trip. Near the end of their time there, a few of them noticed a youth service happening near their hotel pool. At first, they simply stood on a balcony, listening from a distance. But something stirred in them. When they were invited down, they chose to step closer.
The service was led by a church group from Oklahoma finishing up a mission trip. As the night went on, they began baptizing students. And at that moment, one of our HCY juniors felt a pull they couldn’t ignore. They stepped forward and asked to be baptized. I watched that video later that night. I sat there overwhelmed, praising God through tears. It was one of those moments where you can’t help but see clearly—God is moving.
And what makes this even more powerful is this: these students were away from everything familiar—away from HCY, their parents, and their home churches. Yet they still pursued Jesus. They still responded to His call. I could not be more proud of these students. Especially the one who chose to be baptized. That is the mission of HCY.
We are not just creating events or weekly gatherings. We are investing in students so that when they are on their own—when no one is watching—they choose Jesus. We are helping them build a faith that lasts.
But we cannot do this without you. Our immediate goal is to raise $15,000 by June 1st. This will stabilize HCY and allow us to continue reaching students in this next season.
Here’s what that looks like in real, tangible impact:
$100 helps create a welcoming environment for students each month, including snacks and gathering space—often the first step in helping a student feel like they belong
$250 helps support discipleship and mentorship for multiple students
$500 can send one student on a mission trip, creating the opportunity for a life-changing moment
$1,500 covers an entire month of ministry operations
Every dollar matters. Every gift has an impact. But most importantly—every gift helps reach a student who needs Jesus. I’m asking you to act now. Please don’t wait. If God is placing this on your heart, respond today. Because moments like that don’t just happen. They are made possible by people like you. God is moving through HCY. Students are stepping into faith. Lives are being changed. Will you help make sure that continues? Thank you for standing with us and investing in the next generation.
Because of Jesus,
Colton Mellinger

Last night at club we spent time talking about things that were going on in our lives and took time to pray for one another. Some people were uncomfortable praying, and some people were uncomfortable sharing, however everyone there did both. Iron sharpens iron. I feel we don't stop and just listen to the people around us and what they have going on often enough. Certainly we don't stop, listen, and pray for someone enough. I encourage if you're reading this, to at least once the week stop and listen to someone talk and ask them if they want prayer after they've shared. Pushing ourselves little by little and submitting to the Spirits pokes brings us closer to God.

Last night we spent time talking about what do we do if we become stuck in a sin. We all sin daily. But what about those sins we can't seem to shake and we feel chained to. Maybe gossip or envy, the everyday things that can take over who we are. We talked about confessing, we talked about repentance, we talked about praying to God for strength. We talked about having others hold us accountable. We also talked about understanding that when we get stuck we are choosing that action over God over and over again. We have to shift our perspective, trust God more. It lead to great discussion and many other deeper discussions.

I wanted to take a little time to talk about HCY, the current state of our organization, and our spring plant letter. Our spring plant letter will be going out this week, our spring plant is a letter we send out expressing financial and prayerful needs. Our spring fundraiser that helps us a lot.
Over the past year or so much of time outside of meeting with students has been surrounded by numbers. Looking at financial reports, meeting with potential donors, explaining the need of HCY and the impact we bring to the area. If I'm being honest, it's not an area I thrive in. However, I push forward in this season and I've been forced to grow and stretch myself in ways I never thought I would. It's what God has called myself and the board of HCY into.
In our Spring Plant letter I could not bring myself to spend another letter talking about the dire need of HCYs finances. Instead I made quick mention of it and moved on to the impact we've seen on our students over the past year and the reasons we do what we do. The quick mention though does not detract from the reality of the situation. For the first time in my time here I sat in a board meeting and we discussed not if a student deserves a scholarship but if we could viably afford to give one. Going forward I know we have multiple students who will need financial assistance to go on a mission trip this summer. These are things we've never blinked an eye at as an organization it's why we exist that we now have to have serious discussions about. We've cut out expenses over the years and continue to try to be creative to make cuts to make sure the students are not negatively effected. However you can only cut so much budget.
Alot of prayer goes on, in my heart I know, in less than a years time if we don't turn it around the ministry will end, and if God has spoken it than so be it. However, we are working diligently to make sure that doesn't happen. So just know it is not of greed or want that we reach out for support. It's out of need for survival of the ministry. $700 a month is our goal as an organization. This would get us out of the danger zone. That's 35 people at $20 a month, 14 people at $50 a month or 7 people at $100 a month. Those are not small asks I am aware but the need is real. I ask you to prayerfully consider financially supporting the organization. Reach out to me at [email protected] with any further questions. Thanks everyone for all the years of support both prayerfully and financially that have already been given. The impact it has had is eternal.

From Good Friday to Easter this year, the Lord had me stuck on the in-between. Saturday was the day where almost everyone believed Jesus had been proven a fraud and a liar. The disciples had fled and Satan believed he had won. We have all been deep in the valley, we all have struggled through darkness in our lives. It's painful, it's scary and it can cause us to stumble. We look to Lord for answers to our pain, and it can sometimes feel like our cries go unheard and we feel forgotten. However, God always knew Sunday would be there. He knew what He was doing, and not just on a whim we can look to the writings of Isaiah and David 100s of years before to see Jesus Christ on the cross described. God always had the plan, God was always in control. In the depth of the hurt, it feels almost cruel that God would allow us to feel the suffering we feel but just like Easter there is always a Sunday showing up in our lives. It may not be immediate, it may not be the way we wanted it to happen, but there will be a light at the end of the tunnel and there will be a Sunday full of joy and praise. In the struggle cling to God, cling to other believers, and seek righteousness.
