Carmel of Reno

Carmel of Reno Welcome to Carmel of Reno, a contemplative Catholic community of Carmelite nuns in Reno, Nevada, where all are welcome.

A contemplative Carmelite community in Reno, Nevada—a quiet wellspring of prayer, reflection, and peace flowing from the high desert, welcoming all who seek renewal and the stillness of the interior life. Rooted in the Carmelite tradition, we share prayerful reflections, sacred art, and peaceful music—inviting you to pause, breathe, and reconnect with God’s presence in daily life. Our monastery is both a place apart and deeply connected to the contemporary world, living as friends of God and one another. The creative work we share flows naturally from our contemplative prayer, expressing love, simplicity, and reverence for all creation. Whether you seek quiet reflection, renewal, or community, you are welcome here.

There is something powerful about stillness.

No answers to find. No problem to solve. No need to fill the silence.

Sometimes, simply knowing God is beside us is enough… (and, Theo).

“Take me with you.”

With those words, a moment of uncertainty became the beginning of a shared journey. Sister Maria’s story reminds us that new paths can open when we listen carefully, respond faithfully, and have the courage to begin together.

Take a quiet moment to reflect on the paths that have shaped your life.

What does it mean to care for land as sacred?

Sister Ann reflects on the land entrusted to Carmel of Reno. When the Sisters first arrived, only one tree stood on the property. With no irrigation system and hoses that could not reach every area, the Sisters carried heavy buckets of water to nurture each tree they planted.

Their patient care helped transform the monastery grounds while creating a living legacy of reverence and stewardship.

Today, Carmel continues to walk gently, live humbly, and honor the sacred beauty of the land.

Where might creativity be inviting us to listen more deeply?

At Carmel of Reno, creativity is a natural outflow of contemplative prayer. Through art, music, writing, and reflection, inspiration can open new pathways to beauty, connection, and renewal.

As we share in prayer this week, may we remain open to what is unfolding within and around us. Perhaps an idea, a new way of seeing, or simply an invitation to be still.

Let us pause and pray together. https://carmelofreno.com/all-are-welcome/liturgies/

How does our understanding of freedom evolve over time?

At the Carmel of Reno, creativity naturally flows from deep listening to the Spirit in prayer.

Sister Cecilia’s artistic expressions
invite us into that same sacred attentiveness — where a quiet, grace‑filled connection with the Spirit moves within us.

How may we pray with one another this week?

Personal prayer flows into communal prayer. When we pray together, we are reminded that we belong to one human family, united in love and care for one another.

Take a moment to hold someone in your heart today. Then share this post with someone you would like to invite into prayer with you.

Sometimes beauty invites us to pause, listen and become aware of what is already there. Teresa’s Four Waters in Word, Image & Song, featuring music by Sr. Claire Sokol, weaves together music, art and nature in a meditation on St. Teresa of Ávila’s teaching about prayer.
Listen to a glimpse of “Soar” here, then continue the journey through Teresa’s Four Waters. Find the full collection at the link in our bio.
