St James ELCA

St James ELCA You belong at St James! Here, we follow Jesus, ask hard questions, have passionate faith, and want to see God’s vision for humankind made manifest in the world.

We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God's grace. As a small Lutheran church in the Northstate, our goal at St James is that in all that we do, we remember that we are “loved by God, [and called to] gather in friendship, grow in faith, and serve as the hands and voice of Jesus in the world.” We hope that we can be an enriching place for your spiritual walk as you journey wi

th Jesus. Our page is no different! We want this online forum to be an encouraging place for all who are here and for our community to know who we are and what is going on both within our church and the greater Redding area. Help us do this as we ROCK on, St James, and follow these guidelines:

1. Be Respectful
Being part of our community requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make communities great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the community should stay in the community. This is not a forum to air your grievances. As you post, consider whether your post is best for social media or should instead be handled in person and directly with the individual or with the leaders of this community. When replying to others - especially those with whom you disagree - imagine you're having a face-to-face conversation, and ponder how differently you would interact with those people while in the same room, looking each other in the eye, as opposed to miles away.

2. Be Others-Focused

Give more than you take in this community. Self-promotion, spam, and irrelevant links aren't allowed. Posts that aren’t contextual or related to our community may be deleted by our moderators and/or moved to an appropriate subgroup. If you are going to comment, we would prefer it if you could try and add valuable discussion to the conversation. Be friendly, be fair and use common sense.

3. Be Courteous

Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying or hate speech of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, identity, or personal attacks will not be tolerated. Posts which harm or mock the well-being of another is not of Christ and will be removed from our page.

4. Be Kind

We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. In our efforts to speak with honesty, truth, and integrity, let's also treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required, and debates may in fact interfere with the primary purpose of our page. In closing, posts made to our pages are subject to removal at any time, and membership in the Facebook group is subject to review and/or termination at any time, at the discretion of the creators/operators of this page.

This Sunday's Gospel reading is required reading for churches today where we see Jesus' three-step process of conflict resolution, intended to protect those who are disempowered. By talking with one another and not about one another, we focus on what is important: what God wants rather than what we want. Join us this Sunday at 9am in worship as we learn that no person's desires are more important than God's mission through the church.

Who is Jesus, really?

We'll tackle this question this Sunday as we continue our journey in 2 John.

Jesus is Lord, the truth in which we walk together. Join us this Sunday at 9am as we address the central conflict of 2 John that some people are trying to re-shape Jesus to meet their own goals. Instead, we must see that Jesus is Lord, the answer that drives the faith and life of every believer. See you Sunday!

We hope to see you at our Fall Ministry Fair after worship on Sunday, August 30. This exciting event will give you the opportunity to talk to leaders from St James’ different ministries and you can learn more about how to join a group to serve and learn this fall.

We’re asking all participants to provide $5-10 worth of school supplies as they enter. These will be donated to ESYAC and Shasta Meadows Elementary School. Please consider bringing packages of wide or college ruled paper; boxes of #2 pencils, color crayons, highlighters, makers, and colored pencils; 1” 3-ring notebooks; spiral notebooks; composition books; glue sticks; and erasable ink pens. If you are unable to make a donation, see Pastor Bob and a donation will be made on your behalf.

You are encouraged to visit as many booths in our Fellowship Hall as you can, where you will collect raffle tickets for prizes raffled off after our worship service on Sunday, September 6, during our monthly Brunch Fellowship.

Don’t miss this fun event!

To all who participated in today's Back to School Blessing, thank you for the reminder that Jesus is with us everywhere--in school, on the bus, at our extracurricular activities. May all of us remember that we find Jesus where we need Him most. Here's to a great school year.

We'll continue our journey through 2 John this Sunday, looking at what John meant when he encouraged his readers to "walk in the truth." What did he mean? And how might we do it today? We hope you can join us this Sunday at 9am for worship.
