Many people associate bells with Christmas. And the Carillons have had a typically busy Christmas season. Here are some photos from our gig at The Vistas Assisted Living Center. We had the pleasure of ringing for 54 residents, one of whom was MaryAnn Lee. She and her husband, Hartley, were members of the first bell choir at St. James Lutheran Church. So good to see her in the audience and to give her a shout out!!

Happy New Year to all you bell aficionados and fans! 2018 finished in the usual busy fashion for the Carillons. November and December highlights included ringing at:

-Salvation Army Red Kettle
-Turtle Bay Festival of Trees
-The Vistas Retirement Community
-Redding Veteran’s Home
-Longest Night Church Service at St James
-Redding Christian Fellowship Christmas Concert
-St James Children’s program at The Vistas
-Christmas Eve at St James, both the 4:30 children’s service and the 7:30 pm service

A little rest for all before gearing up for the second half of the year and the Siskiyou Summit Handbell Festival in Ashland, OR in early May.

It’s fun to get out into the community and share the joy of ringing bells.

So touching...the Castle Church Handbell Choir in Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, Germany, is performing a concert in honor of Paradise, Ca, which suffered through the worst wildfire in state history recently. The bells that the Castle Church choir plays on came from Paradise Lutheran Church.

Carillons are in a celebratory mood as we welcome the Castle Church bell choir from Wittenberg, Germany this week! In 2011, the Carillons took a mission trip to Wittenberg, taking with them a donated set of bells to give to the new bell choir. We led workshops, performed a concert, and played in both English-speaking and German-speaking worship services while connecting with our new friends. In Redding, we will again host handbell workshops, expanding to four-in-hand ringing, bass bell techniques, change ringing, and bell trees, as well as some sight reading and basic ringing review. We’ll have some social activities as well, which include a visit to Shasta Dam and Turtle Bay Exploration Park along with several potluck suppers. We are eagerly anticipating our time with our friends from Europe!

The Carillons, from Redding, CA, recently attended the Siskiyou Summit Handbell Conference in beautiful Ashland, OR. Under the guidance of Barbara Walsh, director of Reno’s famed Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble, we joined with 75 other ringers to rehearse and play a finale concert. Such fun to fellowship and ring with old and new friends!
