Worship, Invite, Nurture, Serve! Avent Ferry United Methodist Church met for the first time as Wynnewood Park Methodist Church on March 10, 1956. W. L.

There were about 30 people present. They met in the office building of the old Sol Kaplan Dairy. The adjoining dairy barn was renovated during that summer for a church building. These buildings were just off Avent Ferry Road on the edge of the Wynnewood Park development. That area is now filled with homes and apartments. Jack Crum was the first appointed pastor. The dairy barn continued to serve as the church building until Mr. & Mrs. Martin, members of the church, gave two acres of their home farm to the church. The Raleigh Board of Missions purchased three more acres from them to establish the present location on the corner of Avent Ferry and Crest Roads. A new building was completed in August 1961 and the church moved out of the dairy barn. In 1983 the name of the church was changed to Avent Ferry United Methodist Church.

Join Us for the Annual Greater Triangle Area CROP Hunger Walk!
You’re invited to be part of the Annual Greater Triangle Area CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 25th with the Avent Ferry UMC Team in memory of Rachel Gooding.

Avent Ferry United Methodist Church believes that no one in this world should be hungry. That's why the CROP Hunger Walk is more than just a yearly gathering or event for me. It is our chance to help families who are struggling with hunger and concerned about where they'll find their next meal. The Walk is how we take action to make sure that one more person has enough to eat.

We want to help as many people as we can in my community and around the world and would love your support. Please join us the fight against hunger by making a donation! The steps we take - and the funds we raise - support programs that provide meals and other immediate support, as well as long-lasting solutions to hunger. We support this Greater Triangle Crop Hunger Walk in memory of Rachel Gooding. Please support our mission.
