This week, the Southern Baptist Convention held a formal vote to reject churches for whom God has called women to minister.
As St. John's Baptist Church we reject wholeheartedly and with one voice this decision.
As a community that was founded by the SBC, we left their fellowship because this decision has been a long time coming and is a grave mistake.
▶ We live in the world that was first promised in Joel 2:28-29 that God's spirit has been poured out on all people and both our sons and our daughters will prophesy.
▶ We believe God created both men and women to lead, to teach, to preach, and to pastor.
▶ We believe God will continue to choose men and women to build his Kingdom on Earth.
▶ We believe this decision by the SBC is a rejection of God's sovereignty.
No matter what the SBC may say or do, God will continue to call women to ministry in Baptist Churches.
Whenever God has called women to ministry at St. John's Baptist Church, we have affirmed them.
Whenever God chooses to call women again to ministry at St. John's Baptist Church we will welcome them.
