Ittai the Gittite - The loyal man
a loyal warrior and commander who stood by King David during a rebellion (2Sa chp 15)

Ittai - means "with me" or "friend" in Hebrew "companionship".

As David was leaving Jerusalem, he addressed Ittai, offering him the opportunity to return and stay with Absalom, given that Ittai was a foreigner and not obligated to share in David's uncertain fate. David said to Ittai, "Why should you also go with us? Go back and stay with the new king, for you are a foreigner and an exile from your homeland"

Ittai's response is a profound declaration of loyalty: "As surely as the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king may be, whether in death or life, there will your servant be"

Army Commander:
Touched by this devotion, David allowed Ittai to cross the Kidron Valley with him. Later, David placed Ittai in command of a third part of his entire army for the decisive battle against Absalom.

Leader of 600 Men:
He commanded 600 loyal soldiers from Gath who accompanied him and their families into exile with David.

The Value of Loyalty:
Ittai the Gittite's loyalty to David is a testament to the power of steadfast friendship. Despite the risks, lttai chooses to stand by David. "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity" (Proverbs 17:17). True loyalty reflects God's unwavering love for us.

As Jesus' disciples, we demonstrate our loyalty and self-sacrificing allegiance to Him by following His command: "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me" (Mark _8:34).

Luke 16:10: Jesus noted "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much."

Revelation 2:10: Jesus says, "Be faithful [loyal], even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor's crown."

In the ancient Hebrew world each letter of every word was a precious catch, that needed to be taken in by our ear and digested in our hearts.

We had to speak it into existence in our heart first.
