If we really want God's will to be done and His kingdom to come, the chances are pretty good that my will is going to have to be undone every once in a while.

“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭

In Matthew 6 Jesus says 3 times. “Your Father who sees in secret will reward you”

The idea of rewards for religious practice can leave a bad taste in our mouths.

But this isn't God handing out spiritual prizes, and it isn't an extra wing on a heavenly mansion.

From Genesis to Revelation, one thing is clear: God isn't material. He's relational.

So if He's giving any gift, it won't be material. It'll be relational.

That means the reward is Himself. Period.

Not human recognition. Not stuff. His own attentive, relational presence, right here, right now, on earth as it is in heaven.

He models relationship by being God: three in one. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a community within Himself.

And He's constantly inviting us into it. Come. The kingdom of God is near. What makes it the kingdom is His nearness.

THE REWARD IS HIMSELF

SEEK THE KINGDOM FIRST, THEN WATCH WHAT HAPPENS

Growth comes from doing the things we don't want to do.

Over and over again, until those same things become the things we actually want to do.

So, eventually, we start to notice the fruit.

The fruit of loving our enemies. The fruit of praying for them. The fruit of being honest with people, and getting honest responses back.

And when we resist hopping into unhealthy situations, when we don't engage in aggression or violence, something starts to shift.

We look up and think, maybe I'll try this kingdom thing out for real.

Because it's not just a trudge. There's a growth track to it.

Jesus is right about His kingdom. He says seek it first, and everything else will be added to us. Do the uncomfortable things first. Seek kingdom and righteousness, and the comfort will follow.

At Restoration, we partake in Communion every Sunday.

Jesus didn’t say, “Think about this occasionally.”
He said, “Do this in remembrance of me.”

So we slow down.
We bring our whole selves—the joy, the sin, the questions, the weariness.
And we receive again what we could never earn:
His body, broken.
His blood, poured out.
His grace, given freely.

Communion re-centers us.
It confronts our self-sufficiency.
It nourishes our souls.
It reminds us that before we do anything for God, we receive from Him.

“This is my body, given for you.”
