There’s lots of food and lots of gratitude for our incredible volunteers who serve God, others and the church!
Even if it’s a small or big act, or one-time or all-the-time, everything matters and counts! We want to feed you and let you know that you are seen, appreciated and loved!

Join us for Confirmation Sunday!

Confirmation is a two-year discipleship program for 7th-8th graders, taught by the Senior Pastors, to learn about foundational concepts of Christianity and spiritual formation and build relationships and have a little fun along the way. As a church family, we encourage and walk alongside these students as they continue growing in faith—just as we all are. We affirm and celebrate each student wherever they are in their spiritual journey, embracing both faith and doubts, and reminding them that they belong within the care, love, and community of the church..

At the end of their 8th-grade year, each confirmand preaches a short sermonette. We are excited to celebrate and hear from SEVEN confirmands (Abby Cao, Ayda Shelton, Treva Schindler, David Sethi, Noah Mathis, Natalie Haddon, Wesley Tupamahu) this year on Mother’s Day, May 10th.

It will also be our intergenerational service (not May 3rd), so we are happy to have our 1st through 5th graders as well.

COME EARLY!
9:15am West Hills Talks is honored to have Rev Dr Soong-Chan Rah talk about “Christianity at the Crossroads” and the conflict in the Middle East.
Professor Rah is an ordained ECC pastor, theologian, and author whose work focuses on justice, ethics, lament, American evangelical history, the immigrant and global church. He currently serves as the Professor of Evangelism at Fuller Theological Seminary. He is the author of multiple award-winning books.

WEST HILLS WEEKEND RECAP!
We are so full of gratitude and praise and can’t help but to share!

*Sat Nite*
We had 22 folks show up and show out to support our brother, Eric Knox, and HOLLA! We celebrated one of our own, Pamela Ryan, receiving an award for her joyful service to HOLLA - and the Shinodas receiving free t-shirts! We are so grateful for their work to change the cultural and academic narrative for Black, Brown and Indigenous children and youth!

*Sunday Morn*
RAISE THE ROOF!
We heard a final report from our Raise the Roof Campaign that collectively we raised $294K to help fix our flat (leaky) roof! Praise God!

“DELIGHT IN HONORING OTHERS” (Romans 12:10)
We surprised 2 of our retired ECC Pastors, Dick Nystrom and Wayne Smith, who serve faithfully at WHCC and are a regular clergy witness at ICE and protests with handmade stoles (stoles were not given when they were ordained).

IMMIGRATION SERVICE
Was anchored in Moses’ story as a Hebrew adoptee who chose to stop assimilating and found himself navigating his bi-cultural identity in tricky ways and eventually becoming an immigrant in Midian and being invited into Reuel/Jethro’s home as a stranger.

“In God’s kin-dom, hospitality is mutual and relational—it welcomes the stranger, refuses one-way charity, receives one another with dignity, dismantles power, and turns strangers into family.”

THE FRONT LINES
We heard from the *incredible* Jordan Cunnings, Legal Director of Innovation Law Lab, about the heartbreaking stuff happening, the hopefully ways people’s voices are making real life changes, and how her faith informs her work.

REMEMBERING THOSE IN PRISON
And, through partnership with AIDNW (Advocates for Immigrants in Detention in the NW), we wrote about 90 letters to detainees at the Tacoma ICE Facility.

CELEBRATING OUR ANCESTRAL HERITAGE
And, we celebrated the the diversity of people’s ancestors’ heritage through fashion.

*Monday Morn*
Our Serve Local Team delivered Teacher + Staff Appreciation Donuts to HOLLA!

THIS SUNDAY + UPCOMING

We are THRILLED to have Brandi Miller come and preach this Sunday, April 19th!

Brandi Miller is the host of Reclaiming My Theology, a space to take our theology back from ideas and systems that oppress. She is also the Senior Director of Formation and Story at Quest Church and expresses most of her ministry and work at the intersection of faith, politics and justice. She lives in Seattle with her wife, Allison.

We are also excited to hear an update about our local partner, HOLLA, from Eric Knox. Everyone is invited to their annual gala “Joy Unleashed” this May 2nd.

WEST HILLS TALKS | 10-WEEK SEMINAR ON THE MIDDLE EAST | 9:15AM | LIBRARY

West Hills Talks meets every Sunday before church from 9:15-10:15am to explore relevant sociological, political, societal, cultural, and religious topics, to enter into robust, thoughtful, and respectful dialogue about those subjects, and to do so seeking to understand how our walk with Christ informs those conversations.

Starting April 26th, West Hills Talks will have 9 week video-based series “Ascent to Jerusalem” exploring the history, theology, identity of Israel and Palestine.

On May 10th, we are so excited to have Rev Dr Soong-Chan Rah talk about Israel and Palestine as we continue to seek to be thoughtful peacemakers in a world of conflict and war.

THIS SUNDAY: Perry Gardner!

This Sunday, we will hear from Perry Gardner on “Heartbreak to Heartburn” (Luke 24:13-35)

Perry is a devoted lay pastor, husband, and father who is deeply committed to spiritual formation, community transformation, men’s ministry, and justice work for marginalized communities. He has a heart rooted in faith and vision for collective flourishing. He works at the intersections of ministry, leadership, and community investment. Perry is passionate about cultivating lives grounded in the principles of the Kingdom of God, equipping individuals and communities to grow spiritually, think purposefully, and live with intention.

Above all, Perry is a family man whose role as a husband and father anchors his life and leadership, seeking to embody the values he seeks to inspire in others.

RAISE THE ROOF LUNCHEON

Our Covenant story began with persecuted Swedish immigrants—a history that continues to shape our calling today: a legacy lives on in a growing, multiethnic movement committed to loving mercy and doing justice—and it’s at the heart of who we are at West Hills.

Join us for a special luncheon as we share stories of our past, present, and the possibilities of what God is building together. You’ll also hear how you can be part of this next chapter as we raise funds to help replace our roof.

We’re honored to welcome charter members Krisann Jarvis Foss and Howard, as we remember their parents, Burt and Flossie. And of course—come hungry. We’ll be serving homemade Swedish meatballs (Flossie’s recipe!) alongside Beef Bulgoki, mac salad, kimchi, and rice from Koba Grill, a delicious reflection of both our roots and the diverse family we’re becoming.
