At Imago Dei, we desire to begin our fall season in prayer. Prayer is simply the most important work of the church. It is our breathing, our life, our center. Join us this Sunday as we begin a two-week sermon series on The Priority of Prayer. During this series, we will spend time considering the importance of prayer and how to practice it together.

We're in the middle of our annual "Practicing Justice" sermon series, and this year we're focusing on our five practices. At Imago Dei, one of our core commitments is towards five practices of faith. While they are not exhaustive (there’s more to the Christian life than this!) they are substantial: hear/obey the Word and Spirit, celebration, hospitality, vocation, and generosity. The five practices are ways to practice biblical justice every day. While they are simple acts, they are profound. God uses our small obediences to further his work of bringing his kingdom to Portland as it is in heaven. By committing to these things, we get to participate in the life and work of God. Join us Sunday as we continue in this series.

Each year, we get the joy of putting together our Impact Report, reflecting upon what God is doing at Imago Dei. One of our core practices is celebration: we honor and worship God for what we see him doing and trust him to complete his work. There's just one problem: we can't capture everything the Spirit is doing in our midst. God is so active in our church that we cannot—and never can—limit his activity to a report like this. Nevertheless, we invite you to read this and join us in celebrating all we see (and don't see) God doing in our midst. This is just a glimpse--view the full report at www.idcpdx.com/impact

This Sunday we are excited to welcome guest speaker Tony Scarcello! Tony is the Discipleship Pastor at Red Hills Church in Newberg and a dear friend to our pastoral staff. Tony recently graduated from Western Seminary and is an incredibly inspiring author, teacher, and shepherd.

We'll be hitting pause on our study of the book of Hebrews for this week. Tony will be preaching from Luke 18:1-8 (the parable of the persistent widow) and specifically on the topic: how do we continue to pray not only when God seems silent, but even when we feel that God seems unjust in answering us when we pray. We can't wait to receive this teaching and Tony's wisdom on such a real, vulnerable topic.

A little over a week ago we celebrated the start of summer with a beautiful celebration all together in one service. We were surprised with 11 spontaneous baptisms--17 altogether! In the visible act of being submerged in the baptism waters, we sacramentally participate in the gracious love of Jesus Christ, proclaiming Him as Lord and Savior over our lives. It was a joy to enjoy live music, amazing Hawaiian food, and games! Don't forget, we are back to 2 services for the rest of the summer.

This Sunday we begin our new sermon series, "Summer with the Saints."

Hebrews 11 is often called “the Hall of Faith.” It is where the saints are celebrated and honored. Their lives were far from perfect, but all of them carried an interior trust and desperation for God called “faith.” What can we learn from the lives of those who walked in anticipation of Christ? Join us as we spend a summer with the saints of the Hebrew Bible.

Imago Dei is so excited to launch our new Legal Aid Center on the fourth Saturday of each month beginning tomorrow, June 27th! The Legal Aid Center (referred to in the video as a "Justice Center") provides a 45-minute consultation with a volunteer attorney and is designed for individuals and families who cannot afford traditional legal services but still need reliable legal guidance. Whether you need help with housing, family law, immigration, or other legal concerns, these consultations connect you with trusted legal guidance at an affordable cost.

Thanks to all of you who have stepped up to serve on the leadership team for this new ministry! We want to encourage everyone to spread the word to your friends, family, or neighbors to consider scheduling an appointment.

You can learn more and schedule an appointment at idcpdx.com/legalaid
